The Fairview Connection

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
We’ve had an exciting week here at Fairview! On Wednesday, we held our first PTO sponsored assembly with students as they were both educated and entertained by Cris Johnson and the Superhero Science show. It was great to see how many students were engaged and excited during this experience. Be sure to ask your child about the experiments they saw come to life during this show. Special thanks to the PTO for making this opportunity possible for our students! For more Fairview news take a moment to watch this short video with your child as I acknowledge upcoming birthdays, Character Card raffle winners, and provide some further Fairview updates.
As you have likely heard already, the District 57 Board of Education made the determination last evening that we will remain in a remote learning environment from now through January 15th with a possible start date for hybrid instruction on January 19th. With this news, we have an update related to our plans for parent teacher conferences. Parent-teacher conferences will take place between December 7th and January 14th. Because we were not able to afford much lead time for teachers regarding this plan, specific conference dates will vary from one teacher to another. I will be sending an email no later than Friday, December 4th with directions and a link to sign up for conferences. This link will provide families with specific dates and times that our staff will be available. While the dates will vary, conferences will be held on three different evenings from 3:45-7:45 p.m. for each staff member. Parents are encouraged to sign up for conferences with any of the teachers who work directly with their child, but please note that these conferences may take place on different days. I will provide families with an email notifying you when the sign up link will be available so that you have advance notice. All conference times are available on a first come, first served basis. If you have any questions related to parent-teacher conferences, please let me know.
One of my favorite Fairview traditions is how we find ways to support fellow Fairview families in need during the holiday season with our annual Fairview Giving Tree. In a typical year, we would have a tree out in our foyer decorated with ornaments that families can take home. Each ornament has an item to purchase for a Fairview family in need that they can give to their children. Like most things, our Giving Tree process will look different this year. Instead of taking an ornament from the tree, take a moment to sign up online using this link to purchase a gift for a Fairview student whose family has limited financial resources. This gift will most certainly brighten their day when they receive it over the holidays. All wrapped gifts can be dropped off at the front office by December 14th so we can give them to families before we are closed over winter break. If you find yourself in a position where you can be generous with your resources, I know these families would really feel grateful for your kindness.
As we head into Thanksgiving break, I want you to know that I am so thankful to serve as the principal here at Fairview. While this year’s holiday will not be the same as it usually is, one thing that does remain true for me is the gratitude I have knowing that I get to spend my time making a positive impact for children with a great group of staff, parents and, of course, students! Take time to reflect on that which you are grateful for and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
