Ballew and Buell Central Book Club

Elvis Ballew and Buell central reading their 1st book for book club Feed by M.T. Anderson. Students love to talk about the book especially when they get stuck on what is going on. Love that students actually want to read together and discuss!

Sonia Sotomayor Book Divas

Currently Reading The Thing about Georgie.

As far as Georgie is concerned, everyone has a "thing"

The thing about poodles is that Georgie Bishop hates to walk them.

The thing about Jeanie the Meanie is that she would rather write on her shoe than help Georgie with their Abraham Lincoln project.

The thing about Andy's nonna is that she kisses Georgie's cheeks and doesn't speak one word of English.

The thing about Georgie's mom is that she's having a baby—a baby who will probably be taller than Georgie very, very soon.

Read it!

Learning about our Hispanic History

After reading Separate is Never Equal: Syvlia Mendez and her family's fight for desegregation by Duncan Tonatiuh we brought in doctoral candidate for the Mexican American studies, Ricardo Pena. He talked to our students about the Sylvia Mendez case, Brown vs Board of Education and walked out to look at our School's landmark sign.

Great to hear the Library's importance!

During a Telpas training and reviewing Literacy and what is working and what is not, teachers talk about how important it is to read independently and work for a goal. Our students at Buell and Sotomayor are showing improvement after reading and testing and working towards their goals.
