A BIG Shout Out!

From Mrs. Paige Anderson, College and Career Coordinator

"A special thanks to students Jamin Storey, Cole Aping, Zach Ringham, Johnathon Storey, and School Board Member Tammy Storey for their help last Friday after school raking leaves.

A community member's yard accidentally was missed from the list on Community Service Day. The above individuals happened to be next door, and were recruited and willing to help!

They did a wonderful job. The homeowner was very pleased.

Thank you!"

And, now, the rest of the story . . .after receiving information that this yard was accidentally missed, Paige Anderson went over after school to rake the leaves herself. Mrs. Storey saw her and called her sons and his friends to come over and help. Now, that's a great "Hornet Highlight!" Thanks to everyone for their help!

HS Students Present "How-To" Speeches

From Miss Wolfe . . .

"The students in Miss Wolfe's speech class delivered exceptional "How-To" speeches last week. Each student showed off his or her skills in a special way by demonstrating them to the class. Kaitlyn Campbell gave a speech about delivering a monologue to draw in the skills she is perfecting in drama club. Ethan Smiley gave a speech on wrestling techniques and safe ways to lose weight and exercise. Arianna Mullins-Goolsby presented on how to make Oreo Cookie Balls and Chieanna Henderson showed students how to make cheesecake-filled strawberries.

Students pictured (and their topics) are as follows: Kasey Arthur (Tennis Techniques), Isaiah Greene (Defensive Football Strategies), Sonnie Viera (Playing a Guitar), and Reecie Gilliam (How to Hit a Softball).

Excellent presentations were delivered by all!"

FFA Competes in District Contest

From FFA Advisor Chris Kaufman. . .

"The Beech Grove FFA competed on November 10 in the district Chapter Meeting Contest where members use Parliamentary Law to conduct a meeting with assigned tasks. This competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the FFA. Our members competed against other teams from schools around central Indiana (essentially Marion county and all the counties that border it) in two different divisions, one for the middle school and one for the high school. Our district annually has teams that compete at the national competition, so we are up against some tough competition.

Both the teams placed 3rd in their respective division. We have a lot of young members that are very excited about this contest and look forward to our chances in the future. Congratulations to all students (listed below)."

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
