The following message was sent to student last week:
I have received some complaints from parents about students crossing roads around the building in locations other than crosswalks. For your safety, anytime you cross a road, it should be in a crosswalk.
The majority of the issues appear to come from students parking behind the Fieldhouse. This is not a location designated for students to park during the school day. Students are to park in the junior or senior lots.
In an effort to promote positive behaviors, academic success, and responsibility, last year we initiated a new incentive for students during HIVE. Every other Monday, students go to their assigned HIVE and their teacher looks at their grades, attendance, and behavior referrals. Students who meet the following requirements can earn the incentive:
C+ or better in ALL of their classes
No unexcused tardies or unexcused absences
No referrals in the PBIS rewards system
The incentive is an opportunity to go to the Library or the Theater during HIVE Tuesday - Friday. That time is theirs to play games, spend time with friends, and just relax. We have found that this is encouraging students to take ownership of their grades and behaviors, so that they can earn incentive.
Mind Right Mondays
On the first day of each week, the students have been completing a Mind Right Monday activity within their HIVEs. These activities generally take 5-10 minutes and are directly related to one of the MVHS core values: Build Community, Embrace Growth, and Take Ownership. These activities have been designed by the Above the Line team at MVHS and are intended for students and staff to begin each week with a positive mindset. Some of the activities that we have implemented this year include quarterly goal setting, motivational video/podcast reflections, appreciation letters, and fun activities to help foster a positive and supportive climate here at MVHS.
Job Shadowing (Upperclassmen)
Please see the following letter concerning a job shadowing opportunity.
There will be a permission slip in the office following Thanksgiving Break.
Reminder that during the midterm schedule, students are free to come and go as long as they have submitted a permission slip. Those will be located in the office after Thanksgiving.
A Grief Group will be facilitated at Mount High School by Kathy Wantland with Hospice. They will review grief stages, coping strategies and process each student’s experience (if they want to share), etc. The purpose of the group is to aid students in their grieving process and to show them they are not alone. The group will run every other week for approximately 8 weeks.
Please sign and return a permission slip if you would like your child to participate. If you have any questions about the group please contact me at 740-393-5900 ext 5698 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
