Dear South School Families,
During the next two weeks, we are looking forward to many different activities. South will be practicing our crisis drills on Thurs., Sept. 19, 2019. We will be finishing our MAP testing of 6th grade and new students, along with students that tested lower than the 40th percentile.
Students will be discussing two important questions during their HomeBase:
• What are the three roles in a bullying situation (bully, victim, bystander)?
• In what ways does bullying affect people?
Please take time at home to discuss these important topics.
On Fri., Sept. 27, 2019, our PTA will sponsor our first Activity Night for 6th grade students as the girls basketball and our cross country teams, continue to compete. We hope to see you at the PTA's first meeting on Tues., Sept. 17, 2019, at 7pm. We will be meeting in South's large conference room.
Have a great two weeks,
Dr. Jim Morrison, Principal
South Middle School
School Crisis Drills
Thurs., Sept. 19, 2019, we will have a modified schedule day to allow for multiple drills, so they can all be conducted on the same day.
We will be practicing the take cover and lock down drills with the Arlington Heights police department present, to observe those drills. During our evacuation drill, we will also be practicing a relocation drill. In the event of a real emergency, first responders may necessitate we move further away from South Middle School. Our current relocation site is Our Lady of the Wayside School. We have worked closely with Wayside administration, as well as our staff to prepare for this drill.
If the weather is very poor, we will not be holding our evacuation and relocation drill on Thursday. We will reschedule the event for later in the school year.
Student Drop-Off
Also, please be extra cautious driving around the school area. We have had two situations where students were nearly hit, while crossing at the designated crosswalks.

aged students.
• Spectator backpacks are not allowed into the stadium during big athletic events such
as football, soccer and track as well as no outside food, beverages or other sporting
