Physical Eduation Update
November 2018
HERE'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN KICKING AROUND IN THE GYM.....
We have been working hard on dribbling with our feet and kicking skills. I have encouraged students to practice at recess and at home.
I will start the kicking and dribbling assessment on Thursday, November 9. This assessment will take about 2 PE classes. I will finish up by the end of 1st trimester on November 20.
Kicking Expectations....
Kindergarten - I can kick a stationary ball from a stationary position and demonstrate 2 of the 5 critical elements of a kicking pattern..
1st Grade - I can approach a stationary ball and kick it forward while demonstrating 2 of the 5 critical elements of a kicking pattern.
2nd Grade - I can use a continuous running approach and kick a moving ball while demonstrating 3/5 critical elements of a kicking pattern.
3rd Grade - I can use a continuous running approach and intentionally kick perform a kick along the ground and a kick in the air while demonstrating 4/5 critical elements of a kicking pattern,
4th Grade - I can kick along the ground, kick in the air and punt using all 5 critical elements of a kicking pattern.
5th Grade - I can demonstrate a mature kicking pattern in kicking and punting during small-sided practice tasks.
Dribble with Feet Expectations......
Kindergarten - I can tap a ball using the inside of my foot and send it forward.
1st Grade - I can tap and dribble the ball using the inside of my foot while walking in general space.
2nd Grade - I can dribble the ball with my feet in general space while keeping control of the ball and my body.
3rd Grade - I can dribble the ball with my feet in general space at a slow to moderate jogging speed with control of the ball and my body.
4th Grade - I can dribble the ball with my foot, in general space, with control of my ball and body while I increase and decrease my speed levels.
5th Grade - I can combine foot dribbling skills with other skills in a one-on-one practice task.

I CAN STATEMENTS K-5 for Kicking and Dribbling with Feet
Students are learning important steps to kicking -- these are the 5 critical elements they should be able to do by 4th grade.
1st Trimester Grade Information
Number Grade
Standard 1 - The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
3-5 Grade
*Jump Rope, *Dribbling with Feet and *Kicking will be entered to determine 1st trimester grade.
K-2
Along with the above skills, hoping, skipping and jump/land will also be added in to determine 1st trimester grades.
FYI - There is NO 4 option for students in PE. Currently there is not a guideline for physical education to explain a 4 (exceeding the expectations) in PE. Students can earn a 1, 2, or 3 at this time.
Work Habit
Standard 4 - The physically literate individual exhibits responsible, personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
Following our PBIS rules and being prepared for PE class are a major portion of this number grade.
