There are a couple different options when it comes to treating breast cancer. Doctors choose the most efficient based on the type of breast cancer. Variables that help a doctor decide include:
its stage and grade
whether the cells are sensitive to hormones.
Ways to remove breast cancer include:
removing the breast cancer (lumpectomy)
removing the entire breast (mastectomy)
removing a limited number of lymph nodes (sentinel node biopsy)
removing multiple lymph nodes (axillary lymph node dissection)
