CHANGE YOUR WORLD Creators

The creators of CHANGE YOUR WORLD Arts Apparel are long-time supporters of the arts in their community. The vision for CYW came to Dr. Matthew Packer. Matt has spent his career as a musician. Currently he directs the choirs and is on the faculty of Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan, directs the Flint Male Chorus, is Music Director for Swartz Creek Center Stage Community Theater in Swartz Creek, MI and is choir and handbell director at Flushing United Methodist Church in Flushing, MI. He works with high school music students at Swartz Creek High School and Mott Middle College. Matt and his long-time friend, Richard Kerry Thompson, have sung together as Brother 2 Brother in churches, civic events, and benefit concerts since 2008. Near to their hearts are the benefits they have done for The Swartz Creek Food Basket and local veterans.

Matt teamed up with Circle T Enterprises to produce high quality creative apparel at a reasonable price. Circle T is owned and operated by Jim and Katie Thompson of Swartz Creek, Michigan. Katie is the founder and principle director of Swartz Creek Center Stage Community Theater, a program that has been in existence for over 30 years offering drama and music to countless numbers of children, youth and adults all over the area. Many students have gone on to successful arts careers or remained active in the arts in different communities. Jim influenced many in the deaf community through his work at Michigan School for the Deaf and continues to be a tireless promoter of the arts in the Swartz Creek Community.

The creators of CHANGE YOUR WORLD are artists who desire to impact their community and make a positive difference in this world. We hope you will share our vision, join our community, and make your own differences in the communities where you live and serve.

Ways YOU Can Make A Difference

At CYW we are all about impacting our community in positive ways through sharing the arts. Here are just a few things you could consider doing to promote your arts program and make your world a little brighter:

1. Host a benefit concert, recital, theater production, or art show for a local charity. Collect a free will offering, auction or raffle prizes donated by businesses in the community, or have people donate nonperishable food items for a local food bank or soup kitchen.

2. Have a Pay It Forward Day where your arts organization does "random acts of kindness" in your community. Pass out free coffee, hot chocolate, water or soft drinks at a community event, organize a free car wash, hand out post cards with inspirational/motivational sayings (and the name of your organization) at a local supermarket or mall.

3. Organize a flash mob in your community. This works great for all the arts.

SEND US PHOTOS AND STORIES OF HOW YOU ARE IMPACTING YOUR COMMUNITY AND WE WILL SHARE THEM WITH EVERYONE IN THE CYW COMMUNITY!

One Way The World Was Changed

In August of 2011, a young American, Amir Hekmati, went to Iran, the country of his ancestry, to visit relatives. He was captured while there, accused of being a spy and imprisoned. His family has been working tirelessly since then through government and diplomatic channels to secure his release. In 2012, Matt Packer wrote a song for Amir called "I Will Fly." He organized faculty and student musicians at Mott Community College and Brother 2 Brother to present this song and raise awareness of Amir's situation.
