A Message To Our Families from Our Principal, Mrs. Perez
It has been an amazing first month of school. Although this has been one of the most challenging school years for our students, staff, and families, I am encouraged by the collaborative spirit of our community. I could not be more proud of the tireless efforts of our staff--they are working around the clock to serve our students and families. If you have a moment to thank a teacher or staff member, I encourage you to do so. Your support for our staff means the world to us!
I also want to share my thanks, appreciation, and admiration for all of our parents and guardians. We know you are balancing so many things---school, work, and home lives that have all been upended during the pandemic. This work is exhausting and difficult. You are a huge part of our Monte Vista team---thank you for embracing our values of courage, compassion, and connection.
Finally--I’d like to recognize our students. I am absolutely amazed by what I see when I pop into our class Zoom meetings. Attendance has been fantastic during virtual school, and I see engaged kids connecting with their teachers and classmates! I am in awe of our students’ resilience, grit, and determination in Virtual School!
School Reopening Updates
Mask Wearing
All students and staff are required to wear fitted, cloth masks during Classic school. Masks may only be removed during snack, recess, or when drinking water. Let’s support our students with their mask wearing! At school, we will encourage mask wearing through visual reminders, lessons, and positive reinforcement. Students who refuse to wear masks and that do not respond to interventions may be placed in the Virtual school model. Parents, you can make a huge impact by practicing with your child and providing encouragement at home! We know our students will persevere and adapt to this new environment with the support of our staff and families!
The CDC does not recommend the following so they will not be allowed. Please help us make this safety adjustment that is aligned with changes being made in surrounding districts to meet CDC guidance. Bandanas Single cloth Gaiters Vents and valves
Protocols for Illness/Covid-19 Symptoms
We also want to remind families of the required protocols if a student gets ill at home or school. Vista Unified is following the guidance provided by San Diego Health and Human Services Agency and San Diego County Office of Education. Students and staff exhibiting any one symptom of Covid-19 will be sent home for 10 days. Please review the guidance document for more specific information, including exemptions for chronic conditions. We know that our students often experience cold symptoms in the Fall and Winter that may be impacted by this guidance. However, we all need to work together in our school community to prevent the spread and be proactive in our response.

Counselor’s Corner!
Hello Bobcat families! The sudden shift from in-person to online learning has not been easy for all families and kids. Consistency and routine empower students to take ownership of their own learning, so start with a daily schedule. A schedule also allows parents and other caregivers to share duties and maintain routine. This week, I’m sharing my Remote Learning Visual Schedules that you can personalize, download, and place near your child’s learning area. I hope this resource is helpful and please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you! -Mrs. Saupe Heidisaupe@vistausd.org (760) 726-0410 x57403
