The Happenings of Room 11

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! I am so excited to begin this next semester! I hope everyone had a restful break and truly enjoyed spending time with your family. I definitely enjoyed time with mine.

This semester we will have a lot to accomplish but I know that we can do it if we work together. Students who have leveled books should return them as soon as possible. I will be sending leveled books home with students each week. Please read them with your child or have them read them alone. Please make sure that the books are returned each Friday to make sure that new books can be sent home.

Students will no longer be taking word study home for homework. We will be working diligently with our word study words in class. Students will still be expected to read nightly.

I am very excited for what this semester brings. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.

This Week's Learning

Math: This week we will start our unit about time. Students will be learning about digital and analog clocks. They will be asked to tell time to the half hour. Students are expected to know that there are 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day. You can help at home by asking your child to read both digital and analog clocks. Ask your child what time they go to lunch or basketball practice. Expect their answers to be to the half hour (ie. lunch is at 12:30, basketball practice is at 5:30 , bedtime is at 8:00 etc.).

Reading: Our reading focus will be reviewing character traits. We will talk about outside traits or physical traits. As well as inside traits or emotional and personal traits. In your reading you can ask students to describe the character by identifying inside and outside traits.

Content: In content we will be starting our unit on economics. Our focus for this week will be goods and services. What is a good? or service? How are they they same? How are they different etc. You can help at home by discussing goods and services. What are some goods in your home? What are some services that you use daily?
