April 5-April 9, 2021; Week 28; Semester 2
A NOTE FROM YOUR HUGHES MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
HMS Parents and Friends,
We hope everyone had a great 3-day weekend. Time with family and friends is getting better and better. I think most of us can say that we appreciate the time more than ever.
As we begin a new week and the final week of the 5th grading period, remember that students are going to begin reviewing concepts already taught but they will still be learning new concepts as well. Unfortunately, some old concepts seem like new ones sometimes. Encourage your child to finish strong this week by getting missing work completed and turned in before Friday.
Having your child attend every school day, on-campus or online, is crucial for success. Many students have begun "credit recovery" due to absences. We would hate for anyone to have to make-up time for avoidable absences. Keep in mind that even excused absences are counted when determining the need for "credit recovery" if the number of absences exceeds 10% of the class (18 days for the year and/or 9 days per semester).
In closing, let us remind parents of 7th graders that the Writing STAAR will be given on Tuesday. Please make sure your child to well rested, well nourished, and well energized. HMS, BISD, and TEA want to know about each student's current status and progress so we are going to show what we know and can do in writing. All we ask for is your child's best. Thanks for the support and encouragement.
Until next week,
Your HMS Administrative Team

FROM BISD ATHLETICS
The UIL updated its COVID protocols on March 4, 2021. The protocols still require masks at UIL events. For now, BISD will keep the COVID protocols that have been in place all year for 7th-12th athletic events. We will review the 50% stadium capacity if the need arises this Spring.
