NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
Term 4 Week 3 : 29 October 2020
Dear Parents and Staff
This Sunday we celebrate All Saints Day and the children will participate in a Liturgy of the Word celebration in their classes next Monday morning. The Feast of All Saints remembers all those who have been recognised by the church as having lived exemplary lives. There are many, however, who, for whatever reason, have not been officially recognised and we acknowledge and thank God for their lives of service as well.
The difference between the Gospel written
and the lives of the Saints
is the same as the difference
between music written on a page
and music played out loud
~St Augustine~
OPEN NIGHT
Thank you to all of the parents who were able to visit the classes yesterday afternoon to view their children’s work. The artwork that the children had completed under the guidance of Mrs Flexman during last Term was particularly inspiring. Thank you to the staff for preparing for the afternoon and for making your time available to chat with parents as they visited.
ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Congratulations to our Interschool athletes who have competed in Carnivals on Tuesday and today. We are very proud of their efforts and look forward to hearing about their achievements when they return to school this afternoon.
YEAR SIX
Next week is shaping up to be a very busy and exciting week for our Year Six students and their teachers with both their Commitment Pledge and Reconciliation services and their Careers Expo.
The Commitment Pledge and Reconciliation are the final steps on their Spiritual journey towards receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday 7 November. Please keep all of these children, their families and their Teachers in your family prayers at this very special time.
We hope many parents will be able to join us for both of these very important occasions.
SCHOOL REGISTRATION AUDIT
On 17 November our school will undergo an Audit as part of our ongoing Registration. A component of the Audit is for parents to be given the opportunity to complete the attached survey. I encourage parents to participate in this exercise so that those involved in conducting the Audit are fully aware of our school’s operation from a parent perspective. If you are unsure of elements of the survey, please refer to our school website where further information may be located.
KINDY MEETING
Information regarding an Orientation Meeting to be held next Wednesday (4 November) at 6.00pm has been sent to parents of 4 Year-Old Kindy (2021) children. Due to current restrictions there will be two meetings held and parents will be directed to either the school Library or Multi-Purpose Hall upon arrival.
OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE (OSHC)
We are progressing well with our plans to have this facility ready to open, within the school grounds, for the start of school in February next year. The next hurdle that we need to jump is an assessment visit by the Regulatory Authority next Tuesday morning. We are well prepared for the visit so let’s hope we are more successful than we are likely to be in the Melbourne Cup Sweep later in the day.
ASSEMBLY
I’m really looking forward to our final Performance Assembly of the year by our PPM class tomorrow. I’m sure they have some fabulous things planned to ensure our year of Assemblies finishes with a bang.
REMINDER
Please note that Friday 13 November is a Professional Development day for staff and children do not attend school on this day.

YEAR 4 CLASS NEWS
Welcome to Week Three! Term Four has so far been super busy for the Year Four students. We have been researching lots of information to create biographies about Awesome Aussies. It has been an interesting journey learning about various famous Australians and understanding how they have impacted the lives of many. We had a wonderful time last Friday, as we got to dress up as our chosen Awesome Aussies and our parents were invited to the classroom too.
Last Monday, October 19, 2020, was our school’s Book Week Parade, and we were all very excited to dress up and share our favourite book characters with our peers and teachers. It was great to see everyone dress up as their favourite book characters, including Mrs Bradshaw, Miss Gullotti, Mr Safe and Mr Tanham. As a part of Book Week, we wrote book reviews about our chosen stories and these included interesting information, such as: a synopsis, recommendation, favourite part, rating and genre type.
During Art, we created colourful front covers for our book reviews. The front covers needed to have various pictures based on our chosen stories and a catchy title. Some of the book reviews even have blurbs on the back of them. We think they turned out pretty awesome!
In Mathematics we are continuing to learn our times tables. We have been learning about factoring and we are now beginning to learn about decimal fractions and how to write decimal fractions as tenths and hundredths.
In Religious Education, we have commenced exploring the ways that people learn, by doing things, reading about things, listening and talking and watching others. We have also learnt about how Mary teaches Catholics to have faith in God and how Mary’s example of discipleship helps Catholics be people of faith, hope and love.
