In the near future, we will begin to live stream the morning show on the St. Margaret Mary School YouTube channel. Dear parents,

We are coming upon the holidays and would like to ask for your assistance. Please work with your teachers and Room parents to coordinate treats for the students. We want them to recognize the seasons and focus on the reasons and traditions of the holidays more than focus on food. Therefore, treats/snacks will be scaled down to meet the classroom needs to avoid excess. You guys are kind and generous, but excess food is like throwing money away and I would like to avoid that.

In addition, some activities will be scheduled to allow all parents to participate and some may be limited in scope. Please bear with us we still navigate the COVID-19 pandemic convoluted rules.

Thank you,

Chris Collins

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Please do not send students to school with glass water bottles or containers.

Please, please, please make sure your children have masks for school each day. We no longer have the small white masks to give them; and we are having a hard time getting paper masks. We really do not want to have to call you to bering a mask to school.

Thank you for your cooperation.

ALL SAINTS DAY MASS - NOVEMBER 1ST

Dear Parents,

We would like to invite all of our students in Pre-Kindergarten through 7th grade to dress as a favorite saint for our All Saints Day Celebration of the Eucharist on Monday, November 1, 2021. Students in grades Pre K 4, K, 1, 2, 3, 6, & 7 will attend Mass at 8:30am. Students in grades 4 and 5 will attend Mass at 10:15am.

If you choose for your child to participate, which is completely optional, we ask that costumes be very simple. An example is a tunic which can easily be placed over the regular uniform, with perhaps a veil or cowl. We want to be a source of reverence and not distraction. A card identifying the saint should be pinned to the costume or worn as a small placard around the neck.

Costumes may be worn (over the regular uniform) to school that morning. Students in costume will be asked to stand in place and be recognized during Mass. All costumes are removed in the classroom after Mass, so please send a bag for the costume to be carried home.

Thank you for considering this option on a wonderful holy day. It adds great joy to our celebration and reminds us all that the purpose of Halloween (All Hallows’ Eve), is that it is the night before we celebrate the saints! It is a reminder that we are not home yet! We are all aiming for eternal life in heaven.

If you have any questions, please contact me at aenright@saintmm.org.

In Christ,

Amy Enright

SMM UNDERGOING COGNIA ACCREDITATION

This year, St. Margaret Mary School (SMM) will undergo its Cognia accreditation process. An external review team will evaluate SMM on a number of criteria. One such criterion is our commitment to our stakeholders (parents, students, and associated members of the SMM community). Throughout the course of the year, you will be asked to help us in this process by responding to surveys and/or participating in small group discussions.

To learn more about the Cognia accreditation process that SMM will undertake in the spring of 2022 and how you can help, open the pdf below.

SOCK DRIVE

In coordination with "Sock It to Drugs" day, we will have a voluntary sock drive to benefit Community Christian Concern on Thursday, October 28. We have been partnering with CCC for several years. Our sixth graders spend time twice a year with CCC and the Mt. Zion Feeding Ministry in Slidell sorting clothing, tending the garden, and helping serve food to the hungry. We have been blessed to be the recipient of Brown Foundation funding which helps us provide much needed food and clothing.

We are asking for socks in sizes children through adult, men and women. Our Cheerleaders and Dance Team members will be in the Thursday morning car line collecting your donations.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

The image to the right shows symbols from the series that students are creating. Please be vigilant with your children.

SPOTLIGHT ON SMM ALUMS

What makes SMM so special? We are a family! Once a Charger, always a Charger!

We love that Charger Alums are still involved with our school.

ANNUAL THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE

The Food Drive is a parish/school group service project in which we team with the Good Sams ministry at St. Luke’s to provide meals for the hungry and needy in our community. Our SMM school families donate food items assigned by homerooms. The Mission Club will collect items from homerooms and the High School Youth Group will sort the items and place in boxes. Donations from SMM provide a box of several meals for 25 families in our community. We will collect donations form November 7 - 18.

Please see the graphic below for homeroom assignments. Thank you for your generosity.

As it was last year, please call the office and/or contact Gay Knock at gknock@saintmm.org immediately if your child or member of your household tests positive for the Corona Virus. She is our COVID representative and communicates with the Louisiana Department of Health on a regular basis. She will get direction from the LDOH regarding protocols and quarantine restrictions.
