1939 Wagner Rogers Bill
Project by Alex R and Alex Z
What is the Wagner Rogers Bill?
The bill was a proposed quota of 20,000 refugee children to be allowed into America. The bill failed to be passed, earning an 83% disapproval rating. This is thought to be due to prejudice and anti-semitic views caused by the 1929 depression.
Key People in the Wagner Rogers Bill:
Senator Robert F. Wagner and Representative Edith Rogers both were responsible for the suggestion of the bill. President Roosevelt also played a part in his disapproval of the bill.
Effects on German Refugees:
Due to the prevention of this bill being passed, refugees were blocked from finding asylum in America. This could force them to stay stagnant in their persecution, or have to migrate to a country with lesser opportunity.
