April 20 - 24, 2020
Week 3 of Distance Learning Coming Up! We've Got This! But first, ENJOY your weekend!
What do you need?
Since I can't see your beautiful faces, be sure to reach out and let me know if you need anything! Leadership Team shared that the WAG on Fridays would be helpful so you can get class info to families sooner. I'll do my best! Thanks for the feedback, totally helps me know what you need.
Keeping it short as to get this to you ASAP. And because Naomi just got her shots today and is whimpering downstairs....wow, going to Kaiser was a trip today. It's eerie out there.
I'll make my weekly message video to families and kids this weekend and send it out on social media. You can share it via Zoom meetings Monday if you'd like. No worries if you don't get to it.
If you had any students who struggled this week and you'd like me to connect with, please email me and let me know! I made some short videos for quite a few kids this week and really enjoyed the connections.
Hugs to all,
Amy

Neat Opportunity from Mrs. Lutz
Mrs. Lutz will be recording a poem or two and we'll send it as a link in next week's WAG in case you'd like to push that out to families or share it in a Zoom class. Some teachers have already had her join a Zoom call and others prefer the method to show or share a video. She's excited to connect with kids either way, whatever works best for you! This is just another opportunity for community and connection if you'd like it.

Hi Teachers,
I hope you are all doing well and it looks like you are. :) I just wanted to check in. I have lots of fun ideas for connecting with your classes via zoom and videos. I wanted to give you time to acclimate to distance learning. I know I'm feeling overwhelmed but all the "stuff"!
I will send an email with some ideas this week. In the meantime, if you have any ideas for me do share!
One thing that might be fun is for me to pop in to one of your Zooms and share a poem since it is National Poetry Month. Again, we have all month so no rush.
See you soon on Zoom!

PTA Staff Discretionary Funds
If you have any Staff Discretionary or other FOPPTA fund reimbursement requests that you would like to submit, please feel free to e-mail a scan/photo of the form and receipts to fopptatreas@gmail.com OR mail to Erica Arent, 402 Ormsby Lane, Petaluma CA 94954. We are making an exception to the no e-mail reimbursement requests during this time of unknowns, however please hold on to the originals to submit once the school office is open and easily accessible. Please make sure to include your mailing address so that we can send a check!
Due to the unexpected adjustment to distance learning, we will be allowing any staff discretionary funds remaining this year to roll over into your staff discretionary funds for next year. Please submit all reimbursement requests this year by May 15th, and then you will once again be able to submit requests next year as of July 1st.
The staff discretionary tracking sheet is updated to reflect current amounts remaining and can be found here.
The reimbursement form can be found at:

If you have any questions about any FOPPTA funds, please feel free to contact me at fopptatreas@gmail.com.

WHAT IF???
What if...
If they cancel the rest of the school year, students would miss 2.5 months of education. Many people are concerned about students falling behind because of this. Yes, they may fall behind when it comes to classroom education...
But what if...️️️
What if instead of falling “behind", this group of kids are ADVANCED because of this? Hear me out...️️️
What if they have more empathy, they enjoy family connection, they can be more creative and entertain themselves, they love to read, they love to express themselves in writing. ️️️
What if they enjoy the simple things, like their own backyard and sitting near a window in the quiet. ️️️
What if they notice the birds and the dates the different flowers emerge, and the calming renewal of a gentle rain shower? ️️️
What if this generation are the ones to learn to cook, organize their space, do their laundry, and keep a well run home? ️️️
What if they learn to stretch a dollar and to live with less? ️️️
What if they learn to plan shopping trips and meals at home. ️️️
What if they learn the value of eating together as a family and finding the good to share in the small delights of the everyday? ️️️
What if they are the ones to place great value on our teachers and educational professionals, librarians, public servants and the previously invisible essential support workers like truck drivers, grocers, cashiers, custodians, logistics, and health care workers and their supporting staff, just to name a few of the millions taking care of us right now while we are sheltered in place? ️️️
What if among these children, a great leader emerges who had the benefit of a slower pace and a simpler life to truly learn what really matters in this life?️️
What if they are AHEAD? ️️️️”

Art Project Videos from Laura & Sophia
Hello,
I hope everyone is doing well. Sophia and I have been coming up with art projects that you can send out to your students if you like. I had Sophia demonstrate everything in the videos because......... let's face it, she's way better at it than I am. This week we have made 4 different videos with different kinds of bookmarks. They vary on levels of difficulty so hopefully at least one of the designs will work for all different ages. The top link in the doc is the easiest bookmark and then they get harder as you go down the list. I put all of the pictures and video links to each bookmark tutorial in one doc because a parent or sibling can help make any of these with their child. Next week, we will be featuring different crafts you can do with toilet paper rolls. Stay tuned!
The shareable link is below.
I miss everyone but I feel thankful to have Zoom so I can see all of your smiling faces.
