Budget Committee Receives 2018-19 Budget Message to Kick Off Budget Process
Of note, the proposed budget operates with projected local option revenue of $8,481,624, ADMr of 9,950 (an increase of 70 students), utilization of Regional ESD funds appropriated to the district, and a carry-over of approximately $8.7 million of the district's 2017-18 ending fund balance. The proposed budget maintains the staffing level of 2017-18, which included the addition of 34.6 teachers and staff, as well as 8 additional licensed staff for 2018-19 in the general fund budget.
The proposed budget keeps class size ranges as a priority across all schools, ensures high quality professional development, curriculum resources and mentoring, and supports a full academic school year with targeted support for extended learning time. The proposed budget also aims to optimize Measure 98 Grant funds to increase graduation rates and decrease drop-out occurrences across all three WLWV high schools.
View the proposed 2018-19 Budget on the District Website. The Budget Committee will convene on Monday, May 14 at 6 p.m. at the District Office (22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin) to begin work reviewing the proposed budget. The proposed budget will presented to the Board for adoption at their June 11 meeting.

Board Agrees on School Capacity Calculation Method
The LRPC presented two methods for the Board to consider, with a slight preference for a square footage method. That method requires measuring all instructional spaces in square feet and dividing by an agreed upon number that represents the recommended area per student. LRPC Member Samy Nada presented the two methods to the Board, noting that calculations from either strategy produce similar results, but that the square footage model is preferable because it's easy to understand and explain to the public.
The Board unanimously voted to adopt the square footage model as the standard West Linn-Wilsonville capacity calculation method.
