Welcome
Welcome to our weekly Gator Bites newsletter! Every Friday evening our team at CGE will send out any important updates for the following week. Our goal is to be prepared, transparent and informative! We appreciate your time and urge you to read through carefully each week- especially during these unconventional virtual learning weeks.
Stay safe, stay informed and stay Gator Strong! 🐊
From the Principal's Desk
Dr. Larry Savage, Principal
As we near the conclusion of the 2020/21 school year, please know that we are busy preparing for 2021/22 as well. For planning purposes, it is very helpful for us to have an accurate headcount of those students who will be in kindergarten next school year. As such, if you have a rising kindergartener in your home, please see the attached flyers for information on kindergarten testing. If you know a family with a rising kindergartner, also help us by sharing the registration information with them as well. More information related to kindergarten registration may also be found here: https://www.chatham.k12.nc.us/Page/22373
We have very much appreciated all our kids' hard work this week. We hope you all will enjoy a much needed 3 day Memorial Day Weekend!

Parent Pro Tip
Nature Journaling with Kids
This summer break, consider encouraging your children to participate in creating a journal / sketchbook for daily use. It could be as simple as a spiral bound notebook, or as fancy as a real sketchbook. The following exercise is something fun to:
Go outside (or at least a place you don’t normally go inside). Draw what interests you. I encourage showing and telling, adding notes to sketches, and trying to fill a sketchbook page. As one teacher told me once, “they say a picture is worth 1,000 words, but it helps to write some of them down.” Completing the following sentences is helpful:
I notice…
I wonder…
It reminds me of…
Questions? Comments? Email Victoria Sylvestre, your art teacher! From the Library
Students with books still out will get a daily reminder email beginning June 1. All students can check their checkouts on Destiny Discover by following these instructions:
Books not returned will need to be paid for. Thanks so much for your help in keeping our library collection complete.
