5TH GRADE GOLD
In Grade 5, students begin to recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement. Students relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume. 5th Grade students will also learn to classify two-dimensional figures into categories based on their properties.

6TH MATH PURPLE/GOLD
In Grade 6, students continue to develop quantitative measures of area and volume for geometric figures. In Chapter 10 & 11, students combine their understanding of area and three- dimensional shapes to develop a conceptual understanding of nets and surface area. Students use this understanding to relate the area of a net to the surface area of a three-dimensional object. They also investigate volumes of objects with fractional side lengths, first considering packing the volume with unit cubes with dimensions of unit fractions, then connecting to the abstract use of formulas. These concepts are used to solve problems in both real-world and mathematical contexts.

Science
5th Grade
6th Grade
6th grade will end the year with a unit in physical science. We will learn about atoms and elements, forms of energy transfer, and motion graphs. We still have a lot of content to get through in the last few weeks, so get ready to kick it in high gear up until the last day!
Social Studies
5th Grade
After the study of Governments we will be reviewing some of the economic concepts and then focusing in a budget project to close out the year. The students will be picking careers and family situations to then find a house and car that fits into their budget.
6th Grade
I have enjoyed having them again this year and look for great things from this group in the years to come!
Language Arts
5TH GRADE
Our students are using the above standards to create a slideshow of information completely based on the year they were born. REMEMBER WHEN....... It is a compilation of news, sports, entertainment and advertisements . Including the research on their birth year, the kids are also learning digital formatting , placement of images and the purpose of a bibliography.
We will close out the quarter with the creation of a brochure, using information from our "Shopping Locally" interviews . The students will work collaboratively to showcase our local businesses using simple marketing strategies, in the form of a brochure. We hope to be able to finish these in order to distribute them before we leave for the summer.
We are continuing our vocabulary with the study of Greek and Latin Root words. (5L.4.b)
The review of all figurative language , this year, will also be continued as we close out the quarter.
6Th GRADE
Our students have just completed the comparison of the Lorax story and movie. The sixth grade dug deep into the theme or message that both forms of literature provides. We have also discussed inferences that engage the reader to look closer into the message of the impact, humans have on their environment.
Next we will compare and contrast the story of Irena Sendler. Irena was a brave , young woman who saved several children during WWII. We will be studying the different genres by comparing and contrasting both storylines.
Last, our hope is to conduct a small research project on career goals for out 6th graders. It's never too early to look into, "What do I want to be when I grow up?" Our students will take inventory surveys to uncover hidden interests. They will also begin looking into careers and the avenues that can lead them there. (college, career school, etc...)
