Nixon Elementary Weekly Update

Nixon Family Connections
One way we are looking to connect with families is through monthly phone conversations. During these phone calls, your child's teacher will reach out and ask how you feel your child's schooling is going. They will help you get set up with either SeeSaw or Google Classroom, they will instruct you on ways to stay connected to the classroom, and they will ask you for any feedback or hurdles that you might be encountering pertaining to your child's education and/or schooling experience. Whether your child attends school in person or online, these phone calls are an important part of our processes this year.
In addition, in November we will be hosting our annual Student Led Conferences. In order to do this safely, teachers will be reaching out to you to make a virtual appointment to meet and discuss your child's schooling for this first part of the year. This is the time for your child to showcase the amazing work they are doing, as well as to ask any questions you may have pertaining to their schooling so far. You can expect to hear from classroom teachers with your day/time preference for the virtual conference in the upcoming weeks.
Lastly, you should also be receiving a weekly newsletter or memo from your child's classroom teacher. This is an easy way to get a week-by-week check in on what activities, instruction, and learning your child is participating on in school. These newsletters/memos are broader and discuss more about the classroom experience versus your individual child's day-to-day, but we hope it gives you not only topics to discuss over dinner, but also an idea about your child's exposure to the Iowa Common Core standards they are engaged in each week so you can support them with their learning at home.
I will continue my weekly communication to keep you up to date on all things Nixon, and I welcome any feedback or suggestions on topics or articles you'd like to see in these communications from school to home. Don't forget to check our our Nixon Facebook page to get a daily peek into life at Nixon and all the exciting learning taking place!
Have a wonderful week Nixon Families,
