Mill Creek Magic Messages

News and Updates from Mr. Ortman and Mr. Murtha 1/20/2023

Mill Creek's MLK "Souper Bowl" Was a Super Success!

Thank you to the many students, teachers, staff, and Community members who contributed in some way to this past Monday's MLK Day "Souper Bowl" soup drive. Whether it involved gathering resources (e.g. soup containers), making and donating soup, helping to advertise, and/or volunteering time this past Monday to help collect and inventory the soup donations, we so much appreciate all of the support. Mill Creek was able to collect more than 600 soup containers to benefit local families in need - amazing!

Special thanks to 5th Grade teacher, Mr. Molenari, for his organization of this wonderful community service event that most certainly honored the legacy of Dr. King!

FROM MR. ORTMAN and MR. MURTHA

Our hearts were warmed this past Monday, as the turnout for our MLK Day "Souper Bowl" soup donation event exceeded our expectations. 600+ soup containers were delivered, which will provide tremendous help to many local families in need!

We work to teach our students to grow in their reading skills, to take on more and more complex math problems, and to hone their problem-solving skills every day. However, one could argue that engaging in and learning about work to support others, which also strengthens the foundations of the Community, involves even more valuable lessons and are even more valuable learning experiences.

Many of our Creekers' Code tenets were on display this past Monday, and we could not be prouder of our school and greater Community for literally and figuratively "showing up" earlier this week!

Have an incredible weekend, Mill Creek!

Instructional Spotlight - Ms. Hiriak, Library, and Ms. Kralik, QUEST

As the saying goes, it takes a village! In reference to that, our 6th Grade students have begun work on what is arguably the most comprehensive research assignment they have embarked upon to date. 6th Grade Assessment involves supporting a strong thesis statement with factual, researched evidence, including citing the sources from which that support came, and presenting the information to their teacher and class in a professional fashion. The 6th Graders have been working very hard, and they are receiving great support from not only their classroom teachers but also from our Mill Creek Librarian, Ms. Hiriak and our QUEST teacher, Ms. Kralik. Ms. Hiriak has been helping the 6th Grade students learn about and utlize Noodletools, which is a program that allows them to cite research sources. Meanwhile, Ms. Kralik has been working with them to learn about and access the many tools embedded in PowerPoint, so they can create incredible presentations. We predict all of this support with have our 6th Graders sharing some "wow" 6th Grade Assessment presentations and have them well-prepared for middle school!

Student Laptop Expectations

Central Bucks Technology & Innovation Department is asking us to stress the importance of laptop case use for students (grades 3-6) when they transport their laptops and when laptops are not in use for extended periods of time. At school, we will be stressing the importance and reminding students of the need to put their laptop in its case during these times (e.g. when taking a laptop from their classroom to specials class). We ask that you stress these practices at home, too. Thank you for your support!

Additionally, if your child loses or misplaces their laptop case, please reach out to the Mill Creek Main Office.

District Laptop and iPad Care

Central Bucks Innovation and Technology Department has asked us to communicate the following regarding District-issued laptop and iPad care...

  • Please encourage your children to use their laptop/iPad bags for carrying devices in school, at home, and to and from each location.
  • Please encourage your children to report issues/problems with their devices, so they can be properly address and fixed as soon as possible.
  • The laptop/iPad payment fee covers accidental damage. Intentional damage may result in a family being billed for the damage.

Schools will be communicating these messages in school as well.

We appreciate your support!

Inclement Weather Procedures for Car Riders - Dismissal

We ask that, on inclement weather days, car riders post a placard with the student(s) family last name, so we can call in names for quicker dismissal. We will do our best to send a message out earlier in the day if we believe inclement weather dismissal is necessary for car riders. Feel free to use the placard template below if you find it helpful.
