The Ritenour Review
2017-2018 Fourth Grade Weekly News
Welcome Back, Y'all!
Summer greetings to y'all! I hope this correspondence finds you soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the tail of a joy filled and memorable summer vacation.
Our family had a relaxing summer. I was able to attend a conference at Butler called the Summer Math Institute, and I cannot wait to dive into some new strategies in our math block this year. Just this past week, I have also been able to witness two powerful speakers and learn more about social emotional needs in the classroom. I geeked out a bit when they started talking about the parts of the brain and how a better understanding of our brains can guide our emotional outlets and needs. I will be sharing a bit more information on these ideas in the coming weeks. Our entire district was fired up with these conversations and I cannot wait to see the passion and drive for reaching our students grow within the next year.
Our family ended the summer with our son, Rory, hitting the ten month mark! Ah, where is the time going?! He is a blast and we are loving every minute! Just this last month, he has learned to walk and is now up to a toddling run, he finally cut his first two teeth, and finally sleeps through the night! Okay, the last one is my favorite!
This year, we will hit the ground running, so the start of the school year will look different than normal. I spent a lot of time this summer focusing on giving the kids new experiences and routines this year. I will be implementing a lot of student-centered/student-created procedures. As the top dogs in the school, I look forward to seeing them blossom as leaders and guide the younger grades with grace and excitement.
Our biggest topic as we begin the year will be Camp Tecumseh. I will be sending out an informational blog and e-mail tomorrow with more detail regarding camp. Our grade level teachers wanted to meet again in the morning and double-check our information and send consistent information. You all should've received an informational letter back in the spring. I will be sending that out again tomorrow and some more information, too. Please, please, please! If you are wanting to be a chaperone, please, get your full background check completed ASAP.
Lastly, I hope to see you all tomorrow night for our Open House from 5:00-6:30p. Please, feel free for your child to bring his/her supplies. This might make the first day's transitions a little easier. I look forward to seeing y'all tomorrow night!
Please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns. Enjoy the last day of vacation!
Warmest Regards,
Carley Ritenour
