Please use this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TTXXSDW to complete a 3-5 minute survey to provide us with feedback about the parent engagement ideas implemented so far. This will help to inform our upcoming planning. Thank you, your input is very valuable to us!
School Governance Council (SGC) Elections – Would you like to work more closely with our school staff and make decisions about how our school functions? Do you have 1.5 to 2 hours per month to attend engaging meetings about how we can make our great school even better? Consider running for a parent position on the SGC! The meetings allow you to learn more about our school budget, participate in decision-making and goal setting and assist with monitoring our progress. If you are interested in serving, please contact Patrick McAvoy via email at McAvoy@fultonschools.org
He will answer any questions you have and send you the candidacy declaration information. The process is simple and the impact you will make on our students will be well worth your time. We look forward to welcoming our new members!

This semester, we will be focusing on a new schoolwide initiative to support positive behavior- PBIS. As a part of our PBIS initiative (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) students enjoyed a kickoff pep rally on January 11th to explain behavioral expectations and a reward system to reinforce positive behavior. Students will be receiving rewards for following school rules and making positive choices. Teachers and staff will assist with reinforcing appropriate behaviors in all areas of the school and will recognize students for modeling them. PBIS is an evidence-based framework designed to establish behavioral supports for social, emotional and academic success in schools.
Please continue to monitor the GDOT website for updates. Use the link below to see additional meetings and opportunities to provide feedback.
There are 6 main reading strategies that every reader should learn in order to be able to do the work. When students begin to understand that the way they think matters, they begin to read differently. The second strategy is activate and connect. Background knowledge is the foundation of thinking. Reader’s cannot make meaning of the things that they read, see or hear if they don’t thinking about what they already know. In order to comprehend, learners must connect new things to the things they already know. We are preparing students not only to think about what they already know, but to revise their thinking when they come across new and more accurate information. Some questions to ask while a reader is trying to activate and connect are:
- What do I already know about this?
- What experiences have I had?
- What have I read that is similar?
- What do the pictures tell me about the text?
Is it Bullying or Conflict?
Many times students come home with a situation that happened with a peer. It can be hard at first to distinguish if it is bullying or a conflict. It is important to talk with your child, the teacher and any other appropriate personnel to determine the root of the problem. When a situation is a conflict, it opens up the opportunity to teach our children important problem-solving and resiliency life skills. However, if the situation is bullying, it is important to intervene immediately to help the child. But how do we know and what can parents do? This article from Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center can help!
What is Verbal Reasoning?
Verbal reasoning is, in a nutshell, thinking with words. It involves thinking about text, solving word problems, following written instructions to come up with a solution and spotting letter sequences. Verbal reasoning exams are intended to test a child’s ability to understand and reason using words, and are a test of skill, rather than of learned knowledge. They allow the examiner to build a picture of a child’s potential for critical thinking, problem-solving and ultimately, intelligence.

Try some of these activities to support your child’s growth in verbal reasoning…
· Read a variety of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, biography, poetry, and memoirs
· Write poetry in different styles
· Create new titles for pictures, stories, cartoons, etc.
· Create dialogue from an unusual perspective (ex. an object or animal)

Early Checkout Procedures
Our office staff spend the last 45 minutes of the day organizing and communicating transportation changes to teachers. This is a very detailed and important daily task. In order to prevent mistakes and risk student safety, we do not allow early checkouts after 2:00 pm. Thank you for understanding.
Reserved Parking Spaces
The five new reserved spaces are designated for families who joined PTA at the $500 Platinum Level. These funds will be used to support all of our students. Please do not park in or block any of these spaces.
Please let us know if you'd like to join at the Platinum Level.
