Cool Cat News
Campus Brief
Cool Cats,
You will notice that we are committing ourselves to spending more time in your classrooms and doing lots of walkthroughs! We are absolutely loving the time that we get to see you in your element, loving on your students, and embracing your craft! Again, thank you for exhibiting your passion for this work day in and day out!
We met with team leaders last week and they gave us some great ideas about visibility and engagement! From our meeting they suggested that we change up the Polar Express activity to show the movie in classrooms and have regular rotations. This seemed to go over well with all of the teams! In the process, they encouraged us to have hot chocolate with students and to come and do read alouds in your classrooms! Thank you team leaders! We love these ideas! You should be getting a schedule for sign up for these activities if you haven't already! We are looking forward to sharing this time with you!
I also want to thank you for always keeping your hallways filled with great student work! When people walk our halls, they get a sense that great things are happening here! Please continue to display your students' hard work! This year has been more challenging , but we do see those little things that you are doing! You make our hallways look awesome! THANK YOU!
I want to give you a heads upon a few of our upcoming January dates so that you can plan accordingly.
- January 7th - Teacher Work Day. Please plan to attend a 30 minute or so presentation By Dr. Spicer after lunch at 1pm. This will be a bond proposal presentation.
- January 17th - Hartman will host the District PTA Luncheon from 11:30am to 1pm in the gym. Rotations will have an alternate schedule this day that does not include PE in the gym.
- January 24th- Title I Tech Night will be from 5:30-6:30pm. The evening will feature stations from Mad Scientist set in the gym and a come and go "Show off your Techy" in the classrooms. There will be more information to come after the break.
Well, Mrs. Rita has informed me that we are going through our paper too fast! We have already used over half of our budget! Please help me with this! I don't want to have to ration out our paper. Let's each one make a small adjustment to conserve.
Also, please help me with one more thing. We are having issues with students kicking balls to the ceiling in the gym. This is displacing ceiling tiles and could potentially cause a lot of damage. Ashlyn and I have spoken extensively about it, and we are taking some additional measures in the gym and during PE. I have also spoken with Mrs. Perrin to make sure Alphabest is aware, but I wanted to make sure all staff was informed also. If you take your classes to the gym please make sure this is not happening. If you have kiddos that play in the gym after school, make sure this is not happening. Thank you so much!

Discipline Updates from Angela
Citizenship Grades for Students in Grades 2-4
Just as it is our goal that academic grades accurately reflect a student’s skill level, it is important that our citizenship grades provide an accurate reflection of students’ behaviors and work habits. In an effort to accomplish this, our discipline team has taken a close look at our campus-wide system for providing citizenship grades. We have made a few changes that we want you to be aware of as we move into the new semester. Beginning in January, students will receive 7 points off of the their weekly citizenship grade for each infraction beyond a verbal warning. To calculate the nine weeks grade for the report card, each weekly grade will be averaged. Please review the following for more details:
Above and Beyond Expectations – I had an outstanding day!
Cool Cat Green – I had a great day!
Verbal Warning – I received a warning, but I was able to keep my behavior on track the remainder of the day.
Multiple Warnings – I received multiple warnings.
7 points off weekly citizenship grade
Teacher Consequence – I lost a privilege(s).
14 points off weekly citizenship grade
Office Referral – I had to go to the office to reflect on my behavior.
21 points off weekly citizenship grade
This grading system will begin with the new semester in January. If you have any questions about the grading system let us know!
