BCE Bear Mail
Friday September 29th
Message from the office.
Hello BCE Community-
We have had a very busy two weeks. This week, we had our 2nd Bear Paw store. It was a big hit. Please connect with your students on how they are earning Bear Paws. We continue to push the BCE WAY- Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. Using this language at home and in the community is a great way to extend our practice.
We also had our first of many school-wide character trait awards today. Each class honored 1-4 students who have gone above and beyond to help make friends. We will continue to honor our students each month.
As many of you have heard from your teachers, we have 2 online platforms for instruction this year: Lexia (reading/ phonics program) and iReady (math). We will utilize these platforms to support intervention and ongoing instruction. I wanted to ensure everyone had the resources to get the apps and log in at home.

Picture day went well today. You will be receiving an email with your student ID number. You will need this ID number to see your pictures. If you have any questions, please email Lpiccolo@slvusd.org.
Conference week is just around the corner. Please make sure you have signed up for a conference with your teacher.
Some kids have already started to ask about Halloween. Please note we will do our annual Halloween Parade. Students CAN NOT WEAR MASKS of any kind at school. We need to be able to see their faces at all times. We also ask that you do not have bloody costumes. Face painting and blow-up costumes are allowed. If you have specific questions, please email your teacher.
Have a great weekend.

Walk/ Jog next Friday 10/6
This is one of our biggest fundraisers- it supports healthy living, our outdoor play and much more. We are so thankful for our parent club and sponsors, each student will receive a free shirt the day of the event.
If you are interested in coming to cheer on your student here is the schedule,.
Walk/ Jog Schedule 8:45-9:15- TK/ K 9:15-9:45- 1st Grade 9:45-10:15- 2nd Grade 10:15-10:45- 3rd Grade 10:45-11:15- 4th Grade 11:15-11:45- 5th Grade
Attendance Matters
We know people get sick, people get injured, and there can be family or life responsibilities and other issues that are reasonable and excused.
But if your student can attend, they need to be in school.
If your student is out for three or more consecutive days, we may request a doctor's note to continue excusing the absences.
Students who miss 3-5 days will receive a Chronic Absence letter. We will then meet with those families to attempt to support the student attending school. On the second Chronic Absence Letter, families may be required to meet at the District Office to put a plan in place for the student's attendance. On the third Chronic Absence Letter, families may be required to meet with the County Office Student Attendance Review Board for truancy.
Our goal is that nobody ever gets that far along with truancy. We are here to help and support, but it does start at home with the expectation that your student will attend school regularly.
PBIS Planitum Award
I am excited to announce the BCE has been awarded the Planitum PBIS Award this year. The state of California awards schools implementing Positive Behavior Support at different levels based on the implementation. BCE has been awarded the highest level possible this year. We are excited to educate the WHOLE CHILD, focusing on academics, social-emotional learning, and positive reinforcement. To learn more about the state recognition system, click here.

Volunteers
We are excited to have volunteers back on campus. All volunteers need to be cleared with the appropriate paperwork from the office. The office is happy to help if you have questions about your volunteer status.
If you can volunteer this year, we would love to have you. Please speak with your teacher and office staff. All volunteer schedules need to be approved by classroom teachers before volunteers begin in classrooms.
