LHS Killough Campus Initiatives

There are several initiatives in which our campus could be viewed as masters of their trade. In light of this, we want you to be aware of the things that the district does not require but will serve you WELL on this campus.

* Thinking Maps - The district has several options for signing up to get this training. Use the LISDNewHire link above to get those dates and times so you can sign up for the training. Use this link to register for one of these dates. (8/3 or 8/8 or 8/10).
Thinking Maps

* Kagan - While the district does not have any specific training in this area, if you find training in your area, please contact me and we can look into figuring out how to get this training for you. I have a few Kagan binders available for those who would like to get ahead of the game. This training is one of the best manners for engaging your students in cooperative learning.

* TRTW - (Talk Read Talk Write) This training is conducted by an ELL guru (Nancy Motley). As of now, there are no summer training courses, but I have a book for you and we will be conducting an on-line book study. This training is an amazing source of strategies and information regarding ELL's. Use the link below to familiarize yourself with TRTW. Nancy Motley is the person who trained the Killough staff.

* ALL things ELL & ESL - The greatest ESL trio in all of Texas and your "go-to" persons for any and all information, questions, requests are the following:
Jane Foster -
Sarah Guedry -
Danielle Emery -

* All Levels: ESL Foundations, 2 Days (November Trade) - This 12-credit course is intended to provide a foundation in current ESL theory, practice, and strategies. This course will also assist teachers who want to prepare for the ESL TExES certification test. Materials will be provided. You will need to find this course in Eduphoria and sign up. It is a 2 day professional development on July 26-17. If you have problems with getting signed up, email to let me know.

Online Courses - ELL's & ESL
Online courses are available through our LOLA systems. Use the search feature in Eduphoria (ESL or ELL).

* Planners - Our students are required to have a system for organizing. Ms. Flores provides planners but we are aware that some kids prefer their electronic devices. The teachers' goals will always be to ensure that a system is being utilized by holding the students accountable for mandatory input items and the upkeep of the planner.

* Technology - As I'm sure you noted in your interview. We are technology rich at Killough. If there is something you think you will need and you are unsure if we have, don't hesitate to email Ms Jones or Ms. Coen.

* Technology Checkout
- Please see the information below regarding the time to pick up your district provided technology. (Teacher Computers/iPads). This is a district schedule and we have no input or options to alter it. You must use the time schedule they have below also. PLEASE take your badge for picking up your technology.
