Students Brave Elements
CHS Wildlife Biology students braved the elements recently to get a first hand experience of what a wildlife biologist does.
Mr. Tennal's students began a tree inventory of the school grounds that will last until May and cumulate into a highly detailed field guide of each species and its location within each of the 10 plots.
Challenging Our 1st Graders
In first grade, students are challenged to use Story Elements (character, setting, problem, lesson, etc) to summarize the books they read.
This activity helps students to fully understand what they have read, as well as providing for deeper levels of comprehension.
Click here to see more students in Mrs. Petry's class, showing what they learned.
FBLA Does it Again
Earlier this month, the Clinton High School FBLA program participated in the District 10 Leadership Conference, and did a great job of representing our district.
Students brought home a total of 35 individual medals and 10 teams earned 23 medals, for a total of 58 medals earned! Thirty-six students will advance to the state conference in April.
Congrats to Katie Mitchell who was selected as the District 10 Vice-President of Membership.
Congrats to all students for the hard work they put into preparing for the contests.

"Thank a Farmer Week" Poster Winners
Congratulations to Clinton Intermediate School students, Chloe & Sydnei for their winning Farm Bureau posters!
Both girls participated in the "Thank a Farmer Week" poster contest and were presented books by Farm Bureau Members (and CIS teachers), Rikki Mesh and Donna Engeman.
Success for SkillsUSA
The Clinton Technical School Chapter of SkillsUSA recently competed in the West Central SkillsUSA Competition.
Students from Clinton High School and 8 area high schools represented the Clinton chapter. These students took part in written tests, skills competitions, leadership and occupationally-related competitions.
As you can see at this link, the Clinton SkillsUSA Chapter had a very successful competition, as 63 students will be moving on to compete in the state competition later this spring.
SkillsUSA is a very successful national student organization that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor as a "successful model of employer-driven youth development".
Congrats to our students and their instructors.

Lauren Olson
CHS Health and Physical Education Teacher, Lauren Olson is this week's Cardinal staff feature!
Lauren was born in Memphis, TN but moved to Lincoln, MO during her Kindergarten year of school. After graduating from the Lincoln School District, Lauren attended college, while also being a stay-at home mom and fitness trainer. After college she accepted a long-term substitute teaching position in Tennessee, before she moved "back home" and began her teaching career as a Clinton Cardinal. This is Lauren's 3rd year of teaching at CHS.
Lauren has two beautiful daughters, and another little girl on the way! Isabella is 9 and in the Cardinal Coop class at CIS. Lauren says, "She's an old soul and has the sweetest personality." Isabella is Lauren's "girly girl" who loves to sing, dance, and draw. Charlotte is 4 and is in Ms. Jessica's class at CECC. Charlotte is the "wild child" and keeps Lauren on her toes, as she's a free spirit and not scared of much! Nora is expected to join the family in about 6 weeks. Lauren's husband, George, is in the Army Reserves and works for UPS. He is currently working on his Safety Management degree at UCM.
When asked about her hobbies, Lauren says she really only has one thing that she truly enjoys doing everyday, and that is, working out. CrossFit is a sport that she fell in love with in 2015. Since then, she has pursued competing in the sport around the region. "I love CrossFit because it gives me a feeling of accomplishment. It's amazing to see just what our bodies are capable of and it's a great way to test my fitness. It's a sport that involves the whole family too." Lauren met her husband at "CrossFit Believe", the gym that they both coach at. Both of her girls attend CrossFit kids classes as well. Her oldest, Isabella, has even competed in a CrossFit competition.
"I love working in the CSD because of the students and staff. I always tell my friends and family members about how lucky I am to have landed in Clinton as my first teaching experience. I feel that the amount of support from the administration and my colleagues is above many other school districts. Everyone that I meet at work or in the community feels like family and it's very easy to build relationships here. I feel my personality and passion for health/fitness has meshed well here. I'm able to be myself (vibrant hair colors and goofy dance moves) while building relationships and educating students on how to live a healthier life."
