Would you like to change your student's learning pathway (in person or virtual)?
3RD NINE WEEKS LEARNING PATHWAY CHANGES
Beginning Monday, Nov. 16, families may change their student’s learning pathway using the learning pathway change form found in your Skyward Family Access account. You only need to access and submit this form if you are wanting to change your learning pathway for the 3rd 9-week grading period, which begins on Jan. 7. Your change must be made by Dec. 4, two weeks prior to the start of winter break. If you do not complete the form, your child will continue in their current learning pathway.
As a reminder students in grades 6-12 have three learning pathway choices. Learn more about each choice:
We appreciate your understanding that due to the upcoming Winter Break our staff must have time to process changes and prepare for having schedules finalized when they return to work on Jan. 6. We are pleased to offer our families the opportunity to change the learning pathway each nine weeks, but with providing this choice comes a significant amount of reworking the master schedule which takes time.
We want to make you aware that TEA recently increased flexibility for school districts to discontinue virtual learning for students who are not being academically successful. If your student is failing one or more of their virtual classes or has unexcused absences the campus may be contacting you about the process to return to in-person instruction.
FAQs
We have compiled a list of FAQs to help you be informed when making your learning pathway decisions. Please review this document carefully before directing any questions to your campus.
SCHEDULES
Important information to consider as it relates to schedules:
- If you change from one pathway to another, you can expect for your student’s schedule and their teachers to change, and it is possible the actual courses your child is enrolled in may change.
- Submitting your pathway change request as early in the window as possible will help your campus as they try to accommodate the changes.
- Class changes will be made based on what classes are available and have space for additional students. There is not an opportunity for specific schedule requests.
- While our counselors strive for great customer service, they will not be able to respond to requests for information about what your child's schedule could be should you change your learning pathway. The campus administration will rebuild the campus schedule based on the pathway change requests, and schedule information will not be available until after that process is completed.
- Due to the complexity of scheduling students at the middle school and high school level, until all learning pathway change forms are completed, it is not possible for campuses to determine which classes may be available.
The next opportunity to change your student’s learning pathway (for the 4th 9-week grading period) will be at the end of the 3rd 9-week grading period. The window for the 4th nine weeks change will open in February. Changes outside of the established windows will not be made.

LISD Collegiate Academy @ TCHS
Did you know that LISD has a Collegiate Academy at The Colony High School? What that means is that your student could graduate with an Associate’s degree at the same time they graduate from high school. Students apply for the Collegiate Academy during the fall of their 8th grade year. I think your student may be a good candidate and would like to invite you to join us for a virtual parent/student information session at one of the following dates: 11/11 or 11/16.
- Here is a link to learn more about Collegiate Academy: www.lisd.net/academy
- Here is a link to RSVP for the parent information sessions. In order to attend, you will need to complete this to receive the link: Collegiate Academy/Career & Technology 8th Grade Parent Night

LISD Guidance and Counseling Updates
Students will be completing Lesson 7 in Second Step as well as creating a SMART goal in Choices 360 this week during Advisory. If your student is absent, or a virtual learner, these lessons are available for your student on the LVMS Counselor Canvas page.
6th Grade
Lesson 7: Bringing It All Together
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will bring it all together and create an action plan to help them accomplish one of the goals they chose at the beginning of the unit.
Question: Ask your child what their goal is, how they broke it down into smaller goals, and their plans for achieving it. Discuss how you can support them if things at home or in school slow them down or stand in their way and about how you can celebrate when they achieve their goal.
7th Grade:
Lesson 7: Advice on Roadblocks
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will put their knowledge about overcoming roadblocks into action by giving advice to a sixth-grader who is struggling to learn something new.
Talk About it: Tell your child about a time you had to try something new to overcome a roadblock, such as asking someone for help or looking at a problem with a different viewpoint. Tell your child what eventually helped you overcome that roadblock.
8th Grade:
Lesson 7: My Path Forward
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will envision a path to become their best self by using strengths and skills they already have.
Question: Ask your child what skills, interests, or abilities they want to develop and how you can help.
Spectator Guidelines for Athletic Events
For a couple months now, we have been fortunate enough to enjoy fall sports seasons and cheer on our Leopards. As we continue into these and our other sports seasons, I want to take a moment to remind our fans of LISD’s athletic spectator guidelines.
Overall, our community has done a great job adhering to the protocols set in place for athletic events. Thank you, fans! However, it’s been a while since we last sent a reminder, and there are always areas in which we can improve.
Remember - spectators are required to wear a face covering in our facilities at all times and maintain social distance outside of your group, as outlined in the guidelines. And, if you feel sick, please stay at home!
These protocols were implemented to help curb the spread of the virus, as well as allow our student-athletes and performers the opportunity to pursue their passions and continue participating in already-modified seasons. Our top priority will always be the health and safety of our students and staff, and we want to keep our community safe too.
2021-22 TRANSFER WINDOW

The first opportunity to request a transfer for the 2021-2022 school year will be from Nov. 18 until Dec. 4 during our Early Fall Transfer Window. You can learn more at https://www.lisd.net/transfer.
