District Seeks to Provide More Strategic Support to Special Education, Bilingual Programming
In an effort to provide greater strategic support to our growing special education and bilingual populations, we have restructured some administrator and facilitator positions in the district. The following information includes a summary of these positions as well as the individuals selected to fulfill them.
Assistant Directors of Special Education
The role of Special Education Facilitator has been redeveloped into Assistant Director of Special Education. Current Special Education Facilitator Krissy Goebbert will move into this role as well as Glenn Westlake Assistant Principal Heidi Rudy.
Glenn Westlake Dean
With Heidi Rudy’s transition to Assistant Director of Special Education, we felt it was important to revisit the administrative structure at the middle school to ensure it was adequately meeting the needs of our students. We concluded that transitioning one Assistant Principal position into the role of a Dean would allow for this to occur. Michael Kettwig, an administrator in Reed-Custer CUSD 255 since 2005, has been selected to serve in this role. He has a great deal of teaching and administrative experience, and he will be an excellent asset to Glenn Westlake.
EL Instructional Facilitator
This position will provide greater support to our EL & Bilingual programming at the middle school. Patricia Kelliher, a current teacher in Chicago Heights, will serve in this role. She has more than eight years of teaching experience, which has included being a middle school ESL teacher. She also has a Master’s Degree in curriculum and instruction.
We look forward to working with these individuals, and we are excited for the wealth of experiences and opportunities each will provide to our students and staff across the district.

Lombard Educator Recognized for Being Distinguished Communicator
Earlier this month, Julie Syperek, Band Director for Lombard District 44, was recognized for her outstanding work during the 2019 Distinguished Service Awards hosted by the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association. Syperek received an Award of Excellence for her work in promoting inclusion for all students in the performing arts.
The Distinguished Service Awards recognize those who make a difference in their school communities by helping to promote public education and enhance its programs and services.
Nominees were evaluated on their ability to support or improve understanding and communication in the school/district; foster cooperative partnerships between the school and community; and strengthen the overall support for education by stakeholders.
Sixty-one individuals and teams were recognized in the categories of Administrator, Board of Education Member, Community Member, Faculty/Certified Staff Member, Parent, Support Staff Member, and Team. School communicators from 13 states judged the entries against a criteria of excellence, and only those receiving top scores received awards.
Winning nominations either received an award of merit, or for those receiving the highest evaluations, an award of excellence.
