Principal's Message

GEMS New Millennium School, Al Khail

Season's greetings and best wishes for a successful 2018

Dear Parents

Happy holidays to all our NMS families.

2017 has been a year full of great achievements, for our students and by our students. As we close curtain on this wonderful year, it is just the perfect time to revisit the year gone by in a manner to cherish those memories that made us smile. While only a few slices of the action-packed-year weave into my end of year message in this newsletter, every picture is suggestive of the layers of opportunities that NMS teachers had in store for our students every single day.

Do visit the school’s Facebook page, with most uploads this week aimed at revisiting the year gone by: #countdown 2018

The community outreach activities that we organise at NMS inspire all of us, be it the Blood Donation Campaign or the Rally for Rivers. It was particularly great to see all families endorse December as the Month of Giving and generously contributed towards goody bags for the drivers and support staff at NMS.

We take immense pride in the DSIB inspection outcomes (September 2017), with an upward move in a record number of areas. It will be my pleasure to share the report with you as soon as it is published by KHDA.

Our focus continues to be strengthening Arabic learning among all our students, especially new students who join us. Strategic planning with very close monitoring by senior leaders has been instrumental to raising standards in Arabic, that we are already witnessing.

We will also continue focusing on curriculum and teaching provision for the upcoming ASSET examinations, which students from Grades 3 to 9 will sit in English, Math and science in February 2018. ASSET is a standardized test and the outcomes of these tests will measure the school’s preparedness to meet the UAE National Agenda goals.

Click here to read more about the UAE National Agenda.

Teachers have been continuously speaking to students about ASSET and study material to prepare students thoroughly are uploaded on our VLE MyLearning.

The Entrepreneurship Week was a great opportunity for students to study this subject deeply and understand the true spirit of entrepreneurs by meeting real-time people. The contributions from our parents' focus group towards the Winter Carnival is much appreciated. Students extended their learning of entrepreneurship by putting up stalls at the Winter Carnival. In continuation, during this winter break, some of our students are participating in internship courses facilitated by the school in partnership with Meteor Hospital Dubai and Kieta Catering Services Dubai. This apart, a few days of full-on lessons continue for Grade 10, our first batch of students who will sit the CBSE Board exams in March 2018.

Affiliation procedures for Grade 11 and 12 with CBSE are well underway and we will roll out the subject choices for Grade 11 in January.

It will be our continued endeavor to ensure that every students achieves to her/his fullest potential at NMS. Innovation and creativity will continue to drive all education practices at NMS.

There are some exciting new proposals which I look forward to sharing with you when we resume into the new year.

Happy New Year 2018.

With best wishes,

Fatima Martin
