ILLINOIS SCIENCE ASSESSMENT
In compliance with federal testing requirements, Illinois will administer a science assessment to students enrolled in a public school district in grades 5, 8 and 11. The assessment will be administered in an online format and is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for Science incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which were adopted in 2014. The ISA is a comprehensive exam that includes life, physical, Earth and space sciences with engineering and technological design features embedded in the other science domains. The assessment is divided into three tests of approximately 40 minutes each. Compass Academy juniors will take this exam at their home high school on 3/14/23.
All Compass Academy juniors will take the Illinois Science Assessment during periods 1-4 at their home high school. Transportation will be provided after 4th period for students who need it.
Specific district transportation arrangements will be shared with juniors and their parents on Monday, 3/13.

THIS WEEK'S GLIMPSE AROUND CAMPUS
Learning through tutorials and independent application, Interactive Game Design students are creating original games in Unity, an industry-standard game development platform. | Students in Interactive Game Design continued to work this week on adding elements to their individually developed games. | Students in CNC Machining created designs in CAD before using the CNC mill to manufacture custom metal signs. |
Students in Interactive Game Design continued to work this week on adding elements to their individually developed games.
Invertebrate Biology students took a field trip to the Fox River to engage in biomonitoring. | They collected organisms, including shrimp, to test their hypothesis about the health of the water system. | Students recorded data, noting that shrimp are an indicator species, as they investigated the Fox River system's health. |
Students in Culinary Entrepreneurship prepared entrees of choice, including pasta dishes using homemade pasta. | These students enjoyed the baked mostaccioli and garlic bread they made from a student-selected recipe. | This group cooked (and then dined on) twice baked potatoes, pasta, meatballs, and garlic bread from recipes of choice. |

CITY OF ST. CHARLES JOB SHADOWING- A CHANCE TO LEARN ABOUT CAREERS AND EARN CREDIT!
If your student hasn't already engaged in job shadowing through this program, we encourage them to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity this semester. In the city's career pathway job shadow program, Compass students can shadow people in many career fields, including engineering, communications, accounting, firefighting, government, law enforcement, construction, forestry, water management, and vehicle maintenance. Students who participate in job shadowing on Wednesdays, and then write reflections about their experiences, have the opportunity to earn credit for career exploration.
Interested students should print and complete the Registration Form and return it to Ms. Ohlson at Compass Academy. Students may also receive a paper copy of this form from Ms. Ohlson in her office.
