IDIT-A-READ
Keep on reading your way to Nome! Big Lake Elementary’s Idit-A-Read goes through March 31st. Read and record the minutes you and your child reads at home on their calendar, initial and return to school each Thursday. The goal is to read 1131 minutes and follow the Iditarod Trail. Classes are competing to reach Nome first. The winning class earns a lunchtime pizza party in April. Enjoy some great books and read your way to Nome!
MUSIC NOTES
3rd graders are gearing up to learn how to read and play music on recorders! Recorders can be purchased for $10 or rented for $5 from the school. You should have seen a letter come home with more information. Thank you for your support in your student's musical endeavors!

PEAKS TESTING APRIL 2 THRU 5
PEAKS Testing for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders April 2-5, 2019
The Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools (PEAKS) test is given to all 3rd-10th grade students in Alaska’s schools on April 2nd through 5th. Alaska’s educational mission is to provide an excellent education for every student every day. The PEAKS test results show this is happening at Big Lake Elementary and all the schools in our school district as well as across the state of Alaska.
Help your child prepare by ensuring adequate sleep, providing healthy meals and snacks, and coming to school regularly and on time. For more information about PEAKS testing see the following attachment or contact Mrs. Lovelace at 892-9700.
DONORS CHOOSE
Donors Choose was started in 2000. Anyone from anywhere can donate.
BLE has had multiple projects funded already; emergency preparedness kits, headphones, and science and STEM supplies to name a few.
5TH GRADE SPONSORSHIP
Calling all caring hearts!
The 5th grade at Big Lake Elementary participates in a wonderful field trip each spring where we go to Homer for 3 days and 2 nights. Students get to learn about ecosystems, tidal animals, digital photography, among many other things. They get to ride in a boat in Kachemak Bay, sleep in yurts, hike, swim, and learn. The cost of the trip is $240, and some of the students are struggling to come up with the funds. We are looking for community members that might be willing to sponsor some or all of a student’s trip. If you are interested, please call Shari at Big Lake Elementary (892-9700) and tell her you have a caring heart! Thanks in advance!
