All Men Are Created Equal

By: Shivani Ortiz

In 1776, our fathers proposed that all men were created equal. This civil war tested whether our nation could live up to those words. We dedicated Gettysburg to those who had fallen for the nation that our fathers spoke of. We must continue to fight this war to save our nation's unity.

This is an actual photo of Gettysburg during the civil war. This shows how the land was chosen by those who fought for the nation and who suffered. It shows how we didn't dedicate this land to them.

Civil War - Guns and Roses

"Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before"

The quote shows how Gettysburg was chosen by those who have fallen. They have suffered so much that we can't just dedicate land to them, they chose it. It also shows how war has changed the nation's perspective on the history of the nation.

The speech connects to me in a spiritual way. It helps me realize how those who have fallen fought for the nation to be united and to be equal. However, it shows me how not much has changed throughout the years. The nation they fought for hasn't changed since it's still separated in certain ways. It makes me sad that many people died for a nation that still hasn't fixed itself fully.
