General News! Week of September 6th-9th
Welcome Back! Hope you all survived the storm with minimal damage and were able to enjoy the extra long weekend!
Zero Period begins this week. if your child received an invitation for this, please sign and return to help them start their day off right! This will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:45-7:15 am. If we do not receive a response, we will invite another student to take their place.
Camp invitations be sent home this week. Teachers will work with smaller groups of students for 10 consecutive weeks, and then invite another group to join in. All four of our team's teachers will be inviting students to join us, so hopefully we will be able to reach everyone who can use a little extra support in one or more of the content areas.
We are getting closer and closer to progress reports. If you child has missing assignments, please make arrangements for them to come in before school this week to get caught up. They will need a teacher's signature in their agenda to come down from 6:50- 7:15 am. Please also remember this grading period is different from the rest in the fact that the quarter ends on October 5th, which is just two and a half weeks after progress reports...time to buckle down!
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
September 6th- Title I Annual Meeting 6pm.
September 14th- 1st Quarter Progress Reports go home
Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
This week in language arts, we will be focusing on getting the students ready for their first practice assessment, with the emphasis on narrative writing. We will continue our adventures with Pony boy and the rest of the greasers in The Outsiders, as well as discuss the author's intent and purpose of using Pony boy as our narrator for this adventure.
For grammar we will continue to focus on the the rules for commas that help us determine their usage. Hopefully you will begin to get other reasons for using them besides a "Pause"!
This week we will add to our Rootie Tootie Roots : With "MORE,MORE, MORE". Prefixes HYPER and SUPER, SUPR, and SUR will add to our understanding of words that add above, over and more to their meanings. A new StudyStack will be available soon for extra practice on these in their Google Classroom. You can check in PowerSchool to see how your student did on the first quiz...some knocked it out of the park! while others will definitely need to spend more independent time on these.
Nightly homework is approximately 20-30 minutes of reading time each day.
Have a great week!
