LMS Tiger Talk
February 23, 2024
Principal's Message
Tiger Families,
As we look forward to our 8th-grade visits to the Holocaust and Humanity Center happening next week and reflect on our recent Tiger Up! conversations with all of our students, I want to take this opportunity to bring up an important topic. Recently, we have had a few instances here at school of students using language or engaging in conversations that go against what we teach our students and expect of them regarding Care, Respect, and Responsibility. This includes hurtful language, the use of racial and religious stereotypes, and other insults about characteristics that define our students and attributes that make them unique. While all of our middle school students are in a time of great developmental growth and change, we understand that our students do not always fully understand the impact of their actions. Still, we must always look to educate and inform our students of the power of their words.
Please take a moment over the weekend to talk with your child about the importance of Care, Respect, and Responsibility when it comes to how they treat others. Students across LMS and Loveland Schools are always encouraged to “See Something, Say Something” if they ever see or hear anything that could be harmful, hurtful, or damaging to others. This is of course true for anything regarding our student’s safety and security, but also in the way that we treat others. As I often say to our Tigers, if we treat others with kindness and respect, everything else will fall into place. This is how we take care of Every Tiger, Every Day here at LMS. It takes every one of us, students and staff alike.
As always, thank you for your support and collaboration. It’s a pleasure to serve and support your child here at school. Always reach out with any questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend!

Calendar Change: No School on Monday, April 8, 2024
Loveland Tiger Families,
There will be no school for students on Monday, April 8, 2024. A total solar eclipse will cross over Ohio that day, and we’re canceling classes to allow families to experience the eclipse together.
The timing of the eclipse presents a safety challenge. The eclipse will stretch over a period of about two hours around afternoon dismissal time. Students would be on buses, walking, or driving home when the eclipse hits its peak, making it very challenging for students to view this once-in-a-lifetime event safely.
This is the first total solar eclipse in Ohio in more than 200 years. The Ohio Department of Workforce and Development is warning that traffic could be heavy and cell service or internet service could be impacted because of the large number of people expected to visit the state.
I understand that a change to the schedule may be an inconvenience for families, which is why we’ve made this decision now, to give everyone time to prepare. Staff will still be reporting to work on April 8 and will use the time for professional development and training.
You can find more information about how to safely view the eclipse here:

This network has a team of our teachers working alongside other Ohio school districts, engaged in professional development supporting concepts of personalized learning. As a part of that work, we are asking our LMS students to take a short survey. This survey is anonymous and is a general survey about how they experience learning here at school The survey should take our students about 10 minutes to complete and will take place during Tiger Time on Thurs, 2/29.
If you have any questions about this survey, please don't hesitate to reach out to Mr. Knapp.

Reminders
School Drop-Off Procedures
We have seen an uptick in our morning drop-off traffic with the colder temperatures and we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of the drop-off procedures. For the safety of our students and purposes of efficiency (and making this process as quick as possible for all of you!), It is very important that ALL people follow these instructions during this busy part of the day:
- For those families dropping off and/or picking up your child from the LIS/LMS campus, you will pull in the main entrance and you will have to follow the line in the picture below before dropping off or picking up your student(s). You MUST follow this line all the way around the back of the building - DO NOT turn left immediately to the front drive of the building. This causes back-ups and unsafe conditions for students walking or riding their bike to school.
- The area where students are dropped and picked up remains in the front of the building. You will pull all the way up in front of the main LIS/LMS entrance before your student(s) leaves or enters the car. PULL ALL THE WAY UP to the end of the drop-off area (designated by signs) before your child exits the vehicle. This allows more students to be exiting their vehicle at the same time and improves efficiency. Please see the pictures below for the traffic pattern and drop-off area locations.
- Car riders, please also be aware that we will have students walking and riding their bikes to school each day. Please be careful and keep an eye out for students crossing the street and driveway around our campus. You can see the marked crosswalk locations in the picture below where students and pedestrians should be crossing.
If everyone follows the process accordingly, we know it to be the most efficient and safe process possible given the volume and our campus layout. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in following the established process for our car riders. If you have any questions, please let us know.

MINT PTSA
Calling all Science Lovers to engage young curious minds!
Do you love science? Have a science-based career? Or maybe a cool hobby? We are currently looking for presenters for our LIS Science Day on Thursday, March 21st, from 7:45 am until 1:45 pm. (Lunch will be provided) Our theme for the year is Science is CURIOSITY.
The idea would be to present a topic of your choice, involving science, for about 40 minutes to 5 different groups of students. Each homeroom group has about 28 kids. Your presentation could be anything from a lesson to a demonstration to an explanation of your job, etc. Possibilities are endless and we are happy to help along the way. We're wanting to engage students and get their brainy gears churning.
We can only pull off this day if we obtain enough presenters. Even if it’s not you, maybe it’s a coworker or a neighbor or a family member that can help make this day a huge success; please connect us.
Feel free to email or call/text Sudeepa Hall at hallz6521@gmail.com or 937-367-9218.
