NGMS Parent Updates

August 30, 2020

Important Reminders

Greeting NGMS Families,

Now that we have been in school a couple of weeks, I want to thank you for your patience and support. We are working hard to address any technical challenges that may arise during this time of remote instruction.

It is extremely important for your child to arrive at each core class and elective on time. If they have difficulty logging in, they must communicate this with their teachers. Students are expected to check their emails daily and review assignments daily in Google Classroom. Attendance is taken at every class, including electives. If your child misses a class, they will be marked absent. Please send an email or call your child's teacher if your child is absent from any of their classes.

Feel free to contact teachers during their "Office Hours" as noted on the Plan C schedule. Your child's success is important to us. Please let us know how we can support you.

Chromebook Usage Fee

If your child has not paid the annual $25 usage fee, please do so. All returning 7th and 8th grade students must pay this fee. The 6th grade students paid for this prior or at the time of chromebook distribution. This fee can be paid in cash at school or online at our school's website. Thank you to all who have taken care of this already. Contact Dr. Williamson if you have any questions or concerns.

GCPS Re-Opening Plan Fall 2020 for Parents- IMPORTANT

NGMS Plan C Remote Learning Schedule

Please review the schedule your child will follow on the Plan C Remote Learning Option. Students' individual schedules will reflect different times in PowerSchool, but the class rotation is the same. Students must access class on time. It is suggested they begin logging to their classes 5-10 minutes early because the teacher must allow them in through the "Waiting Room" feature. Attendance will be taken at every core period.

Expectations for Remote Learning and Resources

Instruction for this year will be MUCH DIFFERENT than in the Spring when we shut-down unexpectedly. Attendance will be taken, assignments will be given and there will be grades. While the State waived testing this past Spring, there is no indication that it will be waived this school year. Students and families will have to be very committed to schedules, school work, and connecting with teachers.

Please refer to the GCPS Remote Learning Resource Hub that is attached below and located on our school webpage. This document details very important information to assist you with remote learning.

Remote Wednesday

During Remote Wednesday, your child MUST visit each of their Google Classrooms, including both elective classes, to answer the Question of the Day. They are enrolled in four core classes and two elective classes, which means they must answer all six questions to be marked present for the day. This must be completed by 1pm every Wednesday.

Keep your child on a schedule as this will help with their daily routine. If they begin visiting their Google Classrooms on Wednesdays at 8:30AM and rotate to each class every 30 minutes, they would complete all of their Questions of the Day by 11AM. This then will provide time for them to complete their 20 minutes of daily reading and time to continue working on any assignments due later in the week. The goal is setting a routine and schedule for them to follow for their success.

Your child should view Wednesdays as all other days and plug in to complete any assigned work. Teachers have connection sessions scheduled for select students on Wednesdays as well. These students will be notified in advance by their teacher and provided a time and meeting link to join the intervention/connection session.

Let us know how we can assist you.

Student Communication Expectation

Students MUST check their email daily for links to class meetings, messages from teachers, assignments, etc. They are expected to communicate with their teachers if they are having difficulty accessing their class sessions. Emailing or sending a teacher a message on Google Hangout is acceptable.
