Release of Student Directory Information to the Military
State law and City of Virginia Beach School Board Policy 5-66 allow the release of high school junior and senior directory information to representatives of the military for recruiting purposes. Directory information may include the student's name, address, telephone listing, date of birth, and other similar information; however, Virginia Beach City Public Schools provides only name, address, telephone listing, school, and grade level. This information will be available for release on December 13, 2019, to representatives of the military.
A parent may deny the school permission to release the directory information for a student. If you wish to deny the release of such information, complete this Google form before December 2, 2019. If you have not notified the school by that time, the mailing information will be available for release to representatives of the military.
Federal Impact Aid
Federal Impact Aid cards will be distributed to students on Monday, October 28th. The Impact Aid law (now Title VII of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA)) provides assistance to local school districts with concentrations of children residing on Indian lands, military bases, low-rent housing properties, or other Federal properties and, to a lesser extent, concentrations of children who have parents in the uniformed services or employed on eligible Federal properties who do not live on Federal property. Please be sure to complete your Federal Card completely and have your student return it on Wednesday, October 30th.

Kudos to the following folks:
Our NS3 NJROTC students recently took a field trip to Helo Squardon HSC-26 and got some insight into the real world applications of the skills they are studying in their classes. Cadets also volunteered at the Landstown Commons Fall Festival this past weekend.
Jeremy Yoder and his students for recording our alma mater so that we can use it for our tardy warning bell.
Krissy Sanderlin, Erik Moore, Ty Swartz, Rachel White, Kelly Singer, Talon Tech Crew members, and our group of student broadcasters for their dedication in launching our live announcements. Feedback from staff and students has been overwhelmingly positive!
Chef Suzette Johnson and her culinary students for preparing and serving the delicious food for our family picnic on Friday night. Thanks also to the many staff members and their families who came out to the picnic.
Our SCA students who provided fun and games for the kiddos at Friday's family picnic.
The marching band placed 1st in their class and also winning best color guard at the Grassfield competition. They placed 2nd in their class at the VMBC Tidewater Regional Championship!
Our NJROTC cadets received 2nd Place Overall at their competition at Norview HS this weekend with 2nd places in both Physical Fitness and Academics!
Invitation from ODS
ODS is showing the film Angst, a documentary, on November 6, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. The film is less than one hour in duration. They have extended the invitation to us and the members of our school community. Information on the film can be found at the following link: https://angstmovie.com/
The showing at ODS is free of charge and the film is appropriate for children and parents. If you have students who struggle with anxiety, this is an excellent opportunity to help them, their parents, and school staff understand anxiety disorders. Preregistration is NOT required.
Holiday Help
One of our partners-in-education (Bridge Church) would like to assist students at LHS during the upcoming holiday season. They would like to assist a limited number of families who may be experiencing difficulties by purchasing a gift or two for their children. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please reach out to your child's counselor by Friday, October 25 to submit your child's wish list to our contact at Bridge Church. Once Bridge Church confirms that they have purchased a gift from your child's wish list, you will be notified to pick up the gift from Bridge Church (3168 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach) on Saturday December 14th.
