Reading Workshop
Throughout our non-fiction mini-lessons this week, students were focusing on the following learning targets:
- I am learning to use recognize the 3 different types of nonfiction texts: biography, literary nonfiction, and reference.
- I am learning to identify common nonfiction text features and how to use them to deepen my understanding of the text.
- I am learning to read, think, question, and reread to make connections and deepen my understanding
- I am learning to understand the text structure of a nonfiction text to deepen my understanding.
Students are busy reading nonfiction texts during IDR at school. They have the choice of reading fiction or nonfiction at home for their monthly calendars.
Math Workshop
Students spent the week studying multiplication! The learning targets were:
- I am learning to make equal shares drawings to represent equal groups.
- I am learning to write a multiplication equation for an array.
- I am learning to compare and apply array drawings.
- I am learning to apply the commutative property as a strategy to multiply.
Highlights for the Week:
Science
Students finished Tehya's Pollution Solution . They identified the parts of the design process Tehya used to help clean up an oil spill. Next week students will test the PH of waters samples and prepare to clean an oil spill!!
Writer's Workshop
This week, writers continued to write their own adaptive fairy tales! They acted out their first scenes to make sure their stories had life like details. They will continue writing them next week.
Social Emotional Learning
Every week we have a half hour dedicated to social emotional learning. This week we moved on to Unit 2. Our focus for the next few weeks will be on impulse control and how to solve problems calmly and respectfully!
