Extra Extra de Palisades

A Message from Principal Sarlos
To be super clear, on Friday, November 18th, Palisades World Language School will conduct our fall Lockdown Drill. During this drill the 3,4,5th graders will be moved to the Rolling Hills Church to also complete a reunification drill while the younger children remain in the building and finish their day.
A real Lockdown would be called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. Lockdown uses classroom and school security actions to protect students and staff from the threat.
You are free to discuss this drill before or afterwards with your students to reassure them that it is a practice. Discussing this with your child may make this a less stressful experience.
The way we practice is that all students will be prepped for this drill by their teachers.
This will be announced over the speakers:
“Lockdown! Locks, Lights, Out of Sight! Lockdown! Locks, Lights, Out of Sight!"
Teachers will lock individual classroom doors, offices, and other securable areas, move occupants out of the line of sight of corridor windows, turn off lights to make the room seem unoccupied, and have occupants maintain silence.
- Gather students from the hallway into the classroom prior to locking the door.
- Shut and lock the classroom door(s)
- Turn out the classroom lights
- Move students out of the line of sight from corridor windows
- Maintain silence. (teachers may be talking to students and calming them, they may be reassuring students that this is a drill)
- Admin or LOPD will unlock your classroom door signifying the end of the drill and reassure students that it was a practice and they did a good job.
