The Tiger Pride Newsletter
Saint Thomas Elementary School - September 2022
Principal's Message
Thank you to all the students, parents, teachers, and staff members for a great start to the new school year! We are happy to see the return of our Tigers at St. Thomas Elementary School! Our students are adapting to their new teachers and daily routines. Please continue to encourage your child to listen, learn, ask questions, and be curious. Below are four steps to a successful school year.
- Get involved with your child's learning. Read with them each night, review their homework, ask them to tell you about their day, and join the St. Thomas PTA
- Communicate with your child's teacher. Connect with them through their Class Dojo, Seesaw, or email. Attend your child's parent/teacher conference in November.
- Set a specific bedtime for your child to ensure they get the rest they need to be ready to learn the next day.
- Encourage your child to explore their interests. Read a new book, go on a hike, complete a science project, or play an organized sport.
Our Positive Tiger Recognition program officially kicks off this month. The program consists of the monthly Tiger Traits and the Positive Tiger Pride recognitions. Members of the Tiger Trait committee will communicate with the faculty and staff the character pillar for each month (ex. Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Honesty, Caring, Citizenship, etc.). The committee is currently planning mini-lessons and other activities. The Tiger Trait for the month of September will be RESPECT.
At the end of each month, we will recognize our students of the month from each grade level that best displayed the Tiger Trait for the month.
Please use the Tiger Pride cards to recognize student/staff members for demonstrating the monthly Tiger Trait AND for displaying our core values that include Care for Self, Care for Others, and Care for Property.
Students will turn their Tiger Pride Card into the office to be recognized.
At the end of each month, two students will be recognized from grades K - 2 and 3 - 5, respectively.
Students will also be recognized for their positive behavior and attendance at the mid-way and end of the school year.
Thank you for supporting and encouraging the success of our students.

Skyward: New Student Information System
Tuscarora School District is transitioning our Student Information System (SIS) away from Powerschool to a new system called Skyward. We are now ready for parents to access the system,
Please watch your email for an email that will contain your username and a link to set up your password for Skyward.
For more information, including a link to video overviews, please visit our Skyward Transition web page at https://www.tsdrockets.org/apps/pages/skyward.
Each individual parent/guardian will receive a unique login, so there's no need to share accounts. Also, please do NOT share your login information with your student(s). They will also have their own login to the system.
Please note that student schedules are NOT yet available in the system. They are still being finalized but will be available soon.
If you have any questions, please contact the front office of your child's school.
Best Regards,

Breakfast and Lunch Prices for the 2022/23 School Year
The USDA will not be extending the free/reduced breakfast and lunch meal program school-wide for the 2022-23 school year.
Much like prior to March of 2020, households are required to submit a NEW application yearly to be considered for free/reduced meals for the upcoming school year. If you choose not to complete or qualify for free/reduced meals, you will be expected to pay for breakfast and lunch if your child participates. Please see the updated 22-23 breakfast and lunch prices below. More information regarding the breakfast and lunch program is available in the student handbook.
We highly encourage all families to fill out the free and reduced meal application at the start of this year. The applications will be placed in your child's student folder.
