From the Principal's Desk: Reading: It Matters!
This week you can model reading to your child by…Reading Aloud to your Child-When you come across something you think your child may find interesting, read a small part of it to them. They may be motivated to finish reading the article or book themselves. Look for another tip next week.
The Transformed Heart- What Does it Mean to Love God and One Another? Question for this week: What does it mean to be Transformed?
This week’s Bible verse is… Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
Yours in Christ,
Mr. Shirvinski
Lower School Lunch
We have tweaked the Lower School lunchtimes: K-2nd is 11:45-12:20 and 3rd-5th is 11:50-12:30. Lower School students (or lunch helpers) are not allowed to heat up food in the microwave. Instead, please buy the Thermos containers that keep food warm. Our lunches are $3.50 (with a small drink) and $4.00 (with a big drink). It is helpful to send in your K-3rd graders money in a baggie with their name and money amount written on it. 3-5th graders are allowed to buy Grab and Go items, which start at 50 cents.
Grandfriends' Day
We'll share more details soon, but save the date and invite your Grandfriends to the Lower School Grandfriends' Day the morning of Friday, October 20. We're excited about hosting Grandfriends to see our classrooms, share in a time of worshipful singing, and experience our vibrant WSCA community!
Suessical the Musical!
Suessical the Musical was just announced as WSCA's Spring Musical! Save the dates of March 22-24 to enjoy this fabulous show performed by our talented Upper School students. Suessical the Musical is a quirky compilation of Dr. Seuss' favorite stories and will be a delight for your entire family!

Looking Ahead to Race for Education
WSCA's Race for Education has been permanently moved to the Fall and will take place on Thursday, October 12th with a goal of $45,000! Each week, two names from Lower, Middle, and High School will be drawn from students that submitted 15 labels or emails for RFE by September 11. Prizes are posters, ear buds, ITunes and Amazon gift cards, and much more!
The deadline for receiving prizes for mailing labels and emails was Monday, September 11, but please send in more mailing labels or send emails through the RFE website, www.raceforeducation17.kintera.org, if you think of new people. Questions about RFE? Email Renee Henry at rhenry@westshorechristian.org.
WSCA Lower School Yearbook Orders
Our WSCA yearbooks are always fun to make, enjoy, and keep as a memory! Purchasing your Lower School yearbook by September 30 gives you a 15% discount on the yearbook, to pay $12.75 instead of $15.00. Students will also receive a 50 cent Grab and Go card for the cafeteria!
Go to treering.com/validate to purchase your student’s yearbook. Your Lower School passcode is 101495056158615. There is an option to personalize two pages with your student’s favorite photos at NO additional cost. If you start designing the two pages and then decide against completing them, it will automatically revert to a standard yearbook.
Please note, if you have students in both Upper and Lower Schools, you will need a different passcode for the Upper School yearbook. If you have any questions email Yearbook@westshorechristian.org or call 717-737-3550 x134. See the attached PDF (at the bottom of the newsletter) for additional information on how to purchase, customize pages and download app if desired.
Volunteer Clearances
We are happy to have parents and grandparents volunteer in our school. Before volunteering, you must go through the "volunteer clearance process" and receive approval from Christie Swartz in the Business Office before signing up and volunteering. Packets with directions, checklists, and forms to go through the WSCA process are available in the LS and US offices and are attached to the bottom of this email. It is possible that you have a couple of the clearances already through another ministry and can provide us a copy for those specific ones. Please hand in all of your paperwork at the same time and keep a copied set at home. If you have gone through the process before, please email Christie at cswartz@westshorechristian.org to verify your clearances are still current. It's likely you are missing the annual volunteer application form and the Affidavit Act 153. If you have not gone through the process, please be patient as Christie is processing a large amount of paperwork.
CATS Parents Prayer Team
Join with other parents in prayer for our school on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00-2:45 in the LS Conference Room. We pray for staff members, teachers, and students by name and any special requests for that week. If you aren't available on Wednesday afternoons you can get the prayer requests via email each week to commit to pray at home. For more info, contact Gretchen Carvella at catsprayerteam@westshorechristian.org.
Box Tops for Education
We are thankful for dedicated WSCA parents and extended friends who clip Box Tops for our school. Please keep clipping! Each Box Top is worth 10 cents, and General Mills sends us a check to use for special purposes. Many thanks to Chris and Pam Cornetto, who count, proofread, and mail in our Box Tops. They have requested that instead of gluing them to the preprinted worksheets, you just trim them neatly, throw away expired Box Tops, and send them to the office in a Ziploc bag - no counting necessary! Check out the Box Tops app to see special offers. You can your receipt and our school gets bonus credit. Our first deadline is Friday, September 22. If you have any questions, or would like to help the Cornettos, please email Chris at ccornetto@westshorechristian.org.
