October 2021 Counseling Newsletter

MVE Counseling Department

Welcome to October!

Hello everyone and welcome to the month of October! This has been an exciting start to the school year and we have loved getting to know all of our students! This month is National Bully Prevention Awareness Month where we will focus on promoting kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We will also celebrate Red Ribbon Week focusing on saying no to drugs! Your counselors will incorporate National Bully Prevention Awareness and Red Ribbon Week through guidance lessons that we will teach in everyone's classrooms. Students will learn how to respect others as individuals, develop an appreciation of the rights of others, and healthy functioning skills.

Staying Drug Free with the help of K-9 Alice!

On a regular basis, Alice visits campuses and inspects areas like parking lots and lockers. Alice and Officer Regules are most visible at high schools and middle schools, but they also visit elementary schools to talk with students about the importance of staying safe and drug free. Below is a picture of Alice and Officer Regules!

Northside Threads Closet

The NISD Threads Closet provides support to NISD students and families by providing clothing in an effort to reduce barriers and increase attendance. Clothing is free to families and the student/family must have a counselor referral to access services.

  • Provide 5 tops, 5 bottoms, 5 brand new socks, and 5 brand new bottoms to every enrolled NISD student in the referred family.
  • Create volunteer opportunities for staff, students, and the greater community.
  • Receive donations of gently used clothes and ready them for use.
  • Families must get a referral from their NISD counselor to utilize this free service. (Contact Mrs. Lashley or Mrs. Villarreal)
