MSD Summer Bookmobile
Monroe School District is excited to announce that we will be providing students access to library books for summer reading! Every Thursday a library bookmobile will travel through the Chain Lake community and make frequent stops for students to check out library books. A map of the bookmobile stops and times will be available next week.
Next week the school library will also be open for students to check out books for summer reading. Students can check out up to 5 books to take home to continue independent reading over the summer. These books can be kept at home until school resumes in September or returned throughout the summer to the bookmobile.
Summer Reading at Sno-Isle Libraries
As you know, we’re in the final weeks of the school year, which means summer is around the corner. Summer Reading at Sno-Isle Libraries starts Monday, June 21. Kids and teens who read 10 hours will earn a free book. There will also be weekly virtual events, a community scavenger hunt, and lots of book lists and activity ideas online all summer long.
To help, they have created a short video about how Summer Reading works: https://youtu.be/jrVWqWgOFo0

It's Time to Get Outside and Play
Why is outdoor play important?
✻ The first, and probably the most obvious, benefit to playing outdoors is that it promotes physical health. Kids that play outdoors are much healthier than kids that never leave the house.
✻ Children that play outside sleep better.
✻ Physical play helps children develop motor skills and cardiovascular endurance.
✻ Social skills are developed during unstructured play time as children learn to play and work together. They learn to share, cooperate, and make new friends.
✻ As children use their imagination to entertain themselves outdoors they develop their creativity. And as they plan what and how to play they are helping to develop their executive functioning skills—the skills that help us organize, plan and prioritize life.
✻ When playing outdoors children develop an appreciation for nature and the world around them.
✻ Being in nature reduces anger, fear and stress. Exposure to nature can improve your mood and contribute to your overall well being.
✻ Playing outside is FUN!!!!
A Note from the Library.......
We are quickly approaching the end of this school year and with that being said, library books need to come back to school. Please remind your student to be looking at home for any missing or “lost” library books, we still have quite a few students who have missing books from the previous school year that never made it back to the school. Need to know if your student has any missing books? Please feel free to email me at swalwellc@monroe.wednet.edu I will also be sending home book notices this Thursday for students with books out.
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Swalwell
Digital Learning
STEM Activity - What to Do With a Box
This week all grades will be doing a STEM activity that incorporates an engaging read-aloud story called What to Do With a Box. Students will utilize their creativity to create a design using a recycled box from around the house. I look forward to seeing students’ designs posted on our class Padlet. Students need to include their name and teacher’s name to get credit for their class.
Digital Citizenship
Please continue to remind your student to ensure they are practicing good digital citizenship while they are online. Students should be careful about using Google search and ensure that they are following our district policies - searches that could contain questionable content are flagged and sent to individual schools for investigation.
Digital Learning Award
Each week the Digital Awesomeness Award is given for outstanding participation. Thank you to all the students who participated in the DL lesson on Friday. This week there was a tie for the Digital Learning Awesomeness Award. Congratulations to Mrs. Pinz’s and Mrs. Kurtenbach’s classes!
Keep Calm and Code On!

Health Room Screening for Students
Hello Parents!
Please review the attached Illness Guidelines. We are currently following this guidance from the WA Department of Health, Snohomish Health District and the Monroe School District. If your child becomes ill please contact the school regarding your child's illness symptom(s) as soon as possible. We will then review the symptoms with you and determine the pathway for your child to return to school. We are required to follow this very closely.
If children with illness symptoms arrive at school, parents will be contacted to pick their child up. We appreciate your understanding and willingness to work with us to keep children and staff healthy and safe. Thank-you!
Sincerely,
Joy Good RN BSN

CARES
At Chain Lake, each and every one of us is a Cheetah who CARES (Cooperative, Accountable, Respectful, Enthusiastic, Safe)! In school, we talk about what each of these ideas looks like in different settings. As we come back to the building, we know that some of our CARES expectations have changed. We encourage you to use the below as a guide to what it means to follow our Chain Lake expectations in hybrid learning (click the picture to enlarge).
