Wildcat Weekly
September 11-15
#WildAboutWhiteOak
We've had another great week at White Oak! Our third graders took the BOG, students in K-3 completed MClass assessments, and we celebrated Dot Day.
We need your help with our morning car rider line. We have more students in attendance this year and it's really important for all of our Wildcats to be ready to get out of the car as soon as you pull up to a number. This will help us get everyone in the building on time and cars not waiting in the line too long.
Important Reminders:
1. Wednesday is an Early Release Day, students will dismiss at 12:00 pm.
2. Boosterthon kicks off on Wednesday, September 20, we look forward to your continued support that makes so many projects across our campus possible. Fourth and fifth grade students will find out the many clubs we will offer this year on Early Release Days and select their top three. Clubs will begin in October.
3. On Thursday we will hold volunteer training. You may attend at 9:30am or 5:00pm. If you've attended volunteer training in the past, you will not need to attend again.
4. On Friday, progress reports go home.
5. Students new to NC public schools and Kindergarteners are required to have a NC Health Assessment completed in the last 12 months, the deadline is September 26, 2023. If one is not on file by then, the student will not be able to attend school.
Blood Drive Monday, Oct 9
The WOES Blood Drive is on Monday October 9 from 10:00 – 4:00. If you are interested in donating you can schedule your appointment through the blood donor app, online by going to www.redcrossblood.org, or by emailing Wesley Pearson at wesley.pearson@carteretk12.org. Each donor will receive a $15 Amazon Gift Card!
If you already have an appointment or when you get an appointment, you can utilize RapidPass to save yourself time at the drive. RapidPass can be found at www.redcrossblood.org/RapidPass and must be completed on the day of the drive!
Make sure to eat a good breakfast/lunch, drink plenty of water, and bring a form of picture ID or your American Red Cross donor card with you to the drive.
Our PTO Makes a Difference!
Boosterthon begins in two weeks and we're excited for the kick off! Your generosity and the hard work from our White Oak PTO makes so many things across campus possible. They've had our new track installed, allotted all of our grade levels $2000 each ($12,000 total) to fund innovative projects throughout the year, $5000 to fund appreciation projects for staff and students, classroom teacher flags, paint for our new mural, picnic tables, new seating in our lobby with new plants, umbrellas for the car rider line, and many other needed items. Thank you all for your continued support.

AM Procedures
1. As you approach the school, please get in the turning lane near the main entrance and follow the directions given by the law enforcement officer. When you enter the campus, you will need to quickly choose a lane and you must stay in your selected lane.
2. If you are going to drop your child off – either lane is fine. (If you need to park, you must choose lane 1 as this will allow you to follow the arrows and then turn left to find a parking space. NEVER cross lanes of traffic once on campus!)
*Please note- for safety reasons, students and staff are the only people permitted to enter the building prior to 8:00am. (Kindergarten parents will receive specific guidance from their teacher on arrival procedures and Independence Day). Parents and guests may only enter the building prior to 8:00am with a confirmed appointment. In this event, the staff member will meet the parent/guest in the check-in area. Parents and guests must always present a picture id to the staff member on duty.
3. Children may be dropped off in the morning beginning at 7:25am in the designated area in the front of the school only. (Dropping students off in the bus lot or in any of the parking lots is not acceptable at any time.) Staff members and the student safety patrol are on duty to help direct campus traffic and unload children.
PM Procedures
1. Parents will inform the classroom teacher at the beginning of the school year how their child will primarily get home each day.
2. At dismissal, students are escorted to the appropriate dismissal area. Parents who are in the pick-up line are always expected to remain in their vehicle. While on campus, we request that you observe the 5-mph speed limit. The use of cell phones or any other electronic device while in the pick-up / drop-offline is strictly prohibited. We are a tobacco free campus, and the use of tobacco products is prohibited.
3. Parents who choose to pick up their child from school, must display the PICK-UP CARD in the window on the driver’s side with the student’s name, grade, and teacher’s name for easy visibility. (Parents enter the campus using the bus entrance.) If the pick-up card is not displayed for any reason, the parent must park, come into the school, and present a picture ID for your child to be released. Your child will be released when it is convenient to do so as the dismissal procedure cannot be compromised. Staff members on duty are charged with the safety and well-being of each child.
