The Leighton News

From the Principal

Dear Leighton Families,

It is so hard to believe we are halfway through the school year and getting ready to celebrate the holidays with family and friends! We have had so much fun this week and last celebrating Holiday Spirit Week, our quarterly PBIS Movie Event, and our Holiday Parties. Please enjoy some pictures from each of our grade-level parties below.

Tis the Season for giving! We are so proud of our building and District for supporting the Aurora for Others Fundraiser during the second week in December. Our building raised $1695.87 that will be shared with a variety of charities. Thank you for your support and for helping our students be a part of something bigger than themselves.

We are so grateful for the gift of working with each of your children and will continue to offer them the best education and learning environments possible. Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and dedication in helping us to do so.

From our families to yours we wish each of you a wonderful holiday season filled with happiness, love, joy, and health.

Kind Regards,

Michelle Nizen, Building Principal

Maria Goodman, Assistant Principal

Well Wishes to Dawn Zorc and Jen Sferra!!

Well Wishes to Dawn Zorc and Jen Sferra! We have two fabulous Staff Members that will be moving on to cultivate their passions and/or be closer to home. We wanted to take a moment to celebrate and recognize both Jen Sferra and Dawn Zorc for their unwavering dedication to our students, our staff, and our parent community. Mrs. Sferra will be supporting Harmon as one of their school counselors for the rest of the year and Dawn Zorc will be going back to her roots at Cuyahoga Heights as the Elementary Secretary! We wish Jen and Dawn well as they continue to bless the students and staff with which they work and positively enrich our wonderful world of education. Your Leighton Family will surely miss each of you.

Welcome to Nicholas Howard! Nicholas Howard will be joining the Leighton Staff as a long-term substitute after Christmas Break (Week of Jan 10th) and he is thrilled to be a part of the team! Nicholas did his student teaching at Hudson and has a huge passion for PE, child-centered learning, and helping each child develop a love for movement and PE. We are excited to have him be a part of our Leighton Family.

Choir Concerts

What a delightful time we had last week making the recordings with our local community channel focus camera crew, Mrs. Mary Kidd. She was amazing and we can’t wait for you to view our programs! You will see on the flyer the important information in order to connect to the community channel for viewing. Also available for viewing the recitals, you may connect to the website or use the app. Both of these choices allow families to download the performance to share in email with faraway families!

Your Leighton Specials Team has created a Mindful Choice Board for kids to use over the holiday break! Please use any of these options for your kids to find calming and thoughtful activities for relaxation. Using a mindful activity may provide a quiet time for everyone to refresh their minds and spirits. We wish you a mindful holiday break! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ubbWx6xl2KXBDQKFT2qJoKYdV9Y9X5LO0FVyBN4SFqQ/edit?usp=sharing
