A Message from our Principal
Panthers,
Here we are, at the start of February break. Your resilience, as a community, has helped keep this school year moving forward in a positive direction. We have had several sports begin their seasons, which brings some familiar comfort. It’s been great to see some of our Panther athletes get back out there. If you want to catch the events from home, just click here during game time! Know that viewers have to pay for this subscription to be connected to our athletic events, while these services are available.
Academically, our students are continuing to learn, grow, and apply themselves. I have a feeling many families and students are looking forward to this February break. While recharging, and hopefully enjoying family time, it is important for our students to stay engaged and on-track with their academics. They can do this by working on projects through their REAL platform or google classrooms. Believe it or not, after our February break there are only four weeks left to this quarter. That means that students need to make full use of the time and opportunities given to them. Speaking of opportunities, beginning March 1st students will be able to have additional teacher support on given Saturdays and even over spring break. Stay tuned for more information on this.
With winter coming to a close and spring just around the corner, it is important to gear up for next school year! Through their advisory classes, our rising students have been preparing to register for 2021-2022 classes. The course registration timeline is below. It is important that students complete their course requests on time.
Before I close, I’d like to share with you a tremendous highlight of this COVID school year. While I don’t want to ignore the many challenges school districts are facing nationwide, I do want to celebrate the success of our Woodland Park Panthers. Our data is showing us that with the increased rigor, here at WPHS, our students are not losing out on quality education before, or during, the pandemic. Based on the latest SAT testing data, we increased the number of students meeting the state graduation benchmark for their Evidence Based Reading and Writing scores from 2019 to 2020 by 13%. In math, we increased the number of students by 21%. And, lastly, as of this date - 92% of our Seniors (Class of '21) have already met their Colorado Graduation Requirements for College and Career Readiness. That's amazing!
These numbers show significant and meaningful growth. Our Panther students are continuing to develop their academic habits, which gives me great confidence in their success when they graduate from our school.
Until next time -- have a relaxing and productive break.
Mr. Burr
