The Last Week of the Semester.. Can't Believe It!
We had another great week in Kindergarten. I cannot believe that our first semester together is almost over! I have decided to send our weekly newsletter today instead of on Sunday because there are some very important details and reminders in this newsletter about the upcoming week! Please read this information carefully and as always, please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns!
Elementary Winter Celebration is Almost Here!
The Elementary Winter Celebration is a fun-filled day for all students Pre-K through 5th grade at FSAPS. All day on Thursday, December 18th students will rotate to 10 different winter-themed stations for a day filled with friends and fun to celebrate the end of our first semester at FSAPS and all their hard work. In order to make this day special for your Kindergarten students .. we need your help!
This day involves a lot of materials to make it all happen, there are many different items you will be able to sign up to donate for the special event. Please use the link below to sign up to send in materials or a monetary donation of $10. We understand that sending in $10 is quick and easy, but if you are able to pick up some of the materials to send in ... we would really appreciate it. We will not be able to make this day happen unless we can receive all of the materials listed on the Sign-Up Genius! Please note that all materials should be sent in on Monday, December 15th. This is very important, once we have all the materials we can prep all the wonderful activities for your students!
A big thank you to those parents who have already signed up to donate materials, money, or their time! We appreciate you and you are such an important part of making these special days so special :-)

Homework Packet and Show-and-Tell
Your child will not bring home a Homework Packet for this week. You will, however, see a Winter Reading Challenge and Holiday Homework Journal come home with your child. This Winter Reading Challenge is designed to keep your Kindergartner reading and enjoying books while you are away from school. The Holiday Journal can be used to keep practicing their writing skills, and to share with their classmates all about their adventures over the break! Along with this journal, you will see one short page with some suggestions of activities you can do over the break to keep your Kindergartener in the school mind-set if you are looking for learning activities to do. Most importantly though... I hope you and your child enjoy your holiday break together!
Show-And-Tell and Prize Box are on Wednesday! With the change of the weather and more cold days in sight we have been learning about the seasons and the different types of weather. This Wednesday, please bring one piece of clothing. Please send your child with one piece of clothing. Their classmates will guess what type of weather matches your piece of clothing!
Before returning from Winter Break, please be sure to review the uniform policy with your student. The uniform policy can be found in the students’ agenda. Please use this as a reference to make sure that you are sending your child to school in their proper uniform every day.
If for some reasons you have not yet ordered your uniforms, please use the following link to order. The uniform policy will be strictly enforced when we return to school on January 6th. Please make sure your child is properly dressed every time they come to school next semester!
Reading Logs and Accelerated Reader
Your students are doing a great job with their daily reading at home. Please keep working hard on reading and AR! I will collect our December reading logs when we return from Winter Break - make sure you keep up the great reading!
We will continue with our AR goal for the month of December... If your child took at least two AR tests and they earned a score of at least 85%, they will receive a special Dress Down Day, popsicle, and Pizza slice in January for meeting their December goal. Good luck and please let me know if you have any issues logging in or need to know your child's password. The reward date is to be announced.
When we return from Winter Break our AR goals will become a bit more challenging! I am so proud of our great readers.
Names in your Jackets and Change of Clothes
Sometimes messes happen in Kindergarten! We always like to be prepared for this by keeping an extra change of clothes in your child's cubby. Does your child have a change of clothes that is appropriate for the cooler weather headed our way? If not, please make sure to send in a bag (labeled with your child's name) for them to hold in their cubby.
Reading and Language Arts: In Reading and Language Arts this week we will be doing a very fun Gingerbread Study! We will put together all of the reading comprehension skills and writing skills that we have been working on throughout the semester and compare and contrast different versions of the story "The Gingerbread Man". Your students will participate in a variety of fun, hands-on, and exciting reading and writing activities to finish up our first semester together!
Social Studies: In Social Studies, we will be talking about the weather and the different seasons more in depth than we do during our calendar time. We will learn about meteorologists and look at the different types of weather and weather maps. We will be creating our own Weather graph when we return in January.
Science: We will do a fun "Frosty Mug" experiment that helps us learn about the different states of matter. We will continue describing and discussing things like a scientist would do. We will also be observing frost through a fun and hands-on experiment where students will create their own frost on a plastic cup! So much fun!
Math: In Math this week, we will be preparing for the 100th day of school when we return in January. We will do lots of fun hands-on, winter themed activities that help us count and skip count all the way to 100. We will practice our addition and subtraction skills. We will also complete a graph about Gingerbread men!
