Ericson Weekly Update
May 18-22 Week 9 Long Distance Learning Update
Principal's Message
Hello Sea Kings,
Last week we celebrated during our class meetings our 3rd quarter awards with students. It was great to see all of our students smiling faces! Our teachers will continue to check in with students during class meetings and during office hours this week.
Please check your child's schedule this week to make sure that they attend their scheduled class meetings for instructional support and interaction with their teacher. It is important that students are connecting regularly with their teachers. If you need assistance connecting with your child's teacher, please call our office staff to help you at 253-6450. Our office staff is also available to assist you with translation to ensure ongoing communication to meet your child’s learning needs.
This week the district introduced a student engagement tool to better help support learning. Each week 3 assignments will be entered into your child's grade book to measure that week's engagement with your child. You can view the 3 assignments in your child's ATLAS account.
Fresno Unified will continue long distance learning through a Summer Distance Learning program. More information regarding registration will be sent out the week of May 25th.

Student Engagement Tool
Thank you Fresno Unified students for the difficult work you’re doing each week to stay academically engaged and connected with your teachers during COVID-19 building closures. Many of you are participating in virtual learning through Microsoft Teams and Zoom, completing assignments and working to improve quarter four grades. In order to help teachers better support you and your learning, we’ve added a new tool to the student gradebook in ATLAS. It won’t be graded, but teachers will enter into it as you engage and learn each week. Your parents/guardians will be able to see the entries as well as they support your learning at home.
The visual below provides additional details.
Continue to exercise your brain and stay safe!
Summer Learning Opportunities for Students
Summer ACADEMIES are designed to support students with ongoing learning needs, for students with credit recovery needs, or to accelerate academic achievement. Like previous summer school programs, students will be identified by their home school and invited to attend in daily teacher led learning activities. Classes include K-3 Literacy Academy, Math Academy, High School Credit Recovery Academy and individualized special education instruction just to name a few.
Summer CAMPS are designed to provide relevant and enriching learning experiences for students of all grade levels. Camps are an opt in learning opportunity. Interested students will be given virtual access to learn and engage at their own pace in activities like Fresno State’s Lyles College Summer STEM Camp for grades 3-5, Career Readiness Camp for grades 9-12 and recreational, physical fitness, and academic activities.
Students identified to participate in a Summer Academy will receive a communication during the week May 25th that will provide additional details, including their summer learning class schedule.
Information about Summer Camps, including a complete list and how to get involved in one or more of these virtual enrichment programs, will be shared in future communications.
At-Home Instructional Opportunities
Dear Families,
Mrs. Stephenson here to bring you a new idea for at-home learning. Your kids have probably been getting stir-crazy up for a while now. Would they enjoy exploring a kid's museum online? The Metropolitan Museum for Kids features a new virtual tour where kids can explore art and culture from thousands of years ago. There are paintings, videos, and life-size scenes created to help your students understand all the ways the world was different long ago. They will also see that some things were quite similar to how life is today. Spend some time on this website as a family and you will have taught History for the week!

#MetKids - The Metropolitan Museum of Art, i.e. The Met Museum #MetKids is a digital feature made for, with, and by kids.
I'll have a new instructional idea for you to try next week.
Best regards,
Melissa Stephenson
