JANUARY 2024
TAP FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2024 🦘
Happy New Year!
We welcomed new and returning students. As we start a new year, staff hope to encourage positive and consistent attendance among students. ATTENDANCE ADDS UP!
English Language Arts 11 is preparing for ACT, a nationwide exam. English Language Arts 11 and 12 are both learning about figurative language and doing a project where they analyze their favorite song.
February is "Love of reading" month. To celebrate, the nurseries will be having a grand opening of their lending libraries. Students will be able to check out books to take home and read to their littles.

PARENTING YOUR YOUNG PARENT 🦘
Each month we will be sharing reflections, questions, or tips from or for our caregivers and parents who are raising young parents.
A father of one of our May 2024 (early!) graduates shared the following reflections:
“One thing that has helped and that I have worked on and learned, is being more open to understanding where my child is and what she is dealing with. [I try] putting myself in her shoes and letting go of control to allow her to make her own decisions. This has really opened the lines of communication.” When asked how he gets to a place where this is possible, this father shared that a practice he finds helpful is meditation. He uses YouTube as a resource to search for guided meditations on topics he is seeking guidance or support for. He encourages people to find the people, voices, and topics they enjoy. In the moment, TAP parent encourages “mini meditations,” moments to breathe and take space from your student/young parent to think about what you are thinking and feeling and what you want to communicate, and limit the “back-and-forth” that can sometimes happen with our children.
Do you have a question? Something you've learned along the way of your parent or grandparenting journey? Let us know!
