Bits and Pieces from the Principal
Tena koutou katoa, nga mihi nui kia koutou katoa.
Greetings parents, whanau and members of our school community.
This week has been one of those wow weeks. It started with a great turnout for our Senior Swimming Sports and then finished with the School Inter-Whanau Duathlon yesterday. Huge thanks to all the parents who supported both events and the staff who planned and organized so well:
Emily Darrah – Swimming Sports
Scott Sell – Duathlon
An enormous Well Done to all the students who gave their best in both events. Congratulations to Ranginui for their win in yesterdays Duathlon. The swimming sports announcement has to wait for the junior swimming sports to be held next week with the points being combined to find this year’s winning whanau.
NZ Flag Referendum
The students from our school have had the chance to vote in a school-wide referendum whether or not to change the NZ flag.
The NZ Electoral Commission is behind this opportunity for all students throughout NZ who decide to take part. Results will be published by them through the media.
Below is the Te Puru School result:
Current NZ Flag – 39% (54/135)
New NZ Flag – 61% (84/135)
I wonder if this will be an indication in a week’s time of the flag the adults choose?
New Sports Shirts
Today is the last day to order a new sports t-shirt. We have had lots of orders right across all class levels. We will email the order through asap and hopefully the shirts will arrive in a week or two. If there is enough interest, there will be a second opportunity later this term or early next term.
When: Tuesday 8th March – 3.15pm until 6pm (Kowhai Thurday 17th March until 5.30pm)
Wednesday 9th March – 1pm – 5pm (school will close early – bus to leave around 12.30pm)
This is a change to previous years where we have had Student-Led Conferences during term 1.
After consultation with a number of parents we have decided to conduct Parent – Teacher Interviews this term and Student-Led Conferences in Term 3. This will allow parents and teachers to sit down and discuss a wide range of topics, if necessary, without the child being there. I will be interested in your feedback afterwards to how useful this format is compared to Student-Led Conferences. Please see Tania at the office to book your interview time.
Principal’s Award goes to two people this week:
1. Helena Mayer, for her outstanding effort in both swimming and duathlon and they way she supported others during the duathlon.
2. Caroline Auld, for her above and beyond effort during yesterday’s duathlon. Caroline had the role of supporting students out in a kayak in the swim leg of the duathlon and created some entertainment for the parents as she rode the waves.
Well done to you both.
Have an awesome weekend. Super Rugby starts tonight, so don’t spend too much time on the couch watching over the next few days.
school will finish early on wednesday 9th march at 12.30 pm. bus will run early on this day.
