Principals Message
Building Positive Relationships – Welcome to Our Newly Elected P&C
At our last P&C meeting we held the elections for our new office bearers for 2015 and I am pleased to announce the following people who were elected into these positions;
President – Sarah Monahas
Vice President – Danielle Pretty
Vice President – Shannon Gray
Treasurer – Stephen Bragg
Secretary – Sharna Rennie
I’d like to thank and congratulate our new P&C office bearers on gaining their positions and for their continued support for our school and our children. This is a very experienced and talented group of people and we are again very fortunate to have such a great team leading the P&C.
I’d also like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Banksmeadow PS community, to say a huge thank you to our outgoing P&C President Danielle Pretty. While I have only been at Banksmeadow PS for a short period of time, it is quite clear to me that we have continued to have a very strong P&C under Danielle’s leadership. She has such a positive style of leadership that promotes harmony throughout the community and has been highly successful for our school. This is evident from the continued success of P&C fundraising under Danielle’s leadership through initiatives such as the School Fete in 2013 that was a tremendous success. On behalf of the whole school community, I’d like to thank Danielle for her commitment and dedication to our school and our children.
Promoting Inclusivity & Embracing Diversity – Thank You to Our Parent Presenters on Harmony Day
On Monday we celebrated Harmony Day by wearing orange and participating in a myriad of activities that promoted a culture of inclusivity and embraced the cultural diversity of our wonderful school. To enhance the experience for our children, we had a number of parents visit classrooms to lead a variety of cultural activities. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the following parents; Jing Jing (Leon’s mum), Sanae (Aika’s mum), Satomi (Mari’s dad), Eleni (Theo’s mum), Mbalenhle (Reitu’s mum) and Scott (Scarlett & Sienna’s dad). Your support is always much appreciated and on behalf of the staff and children, we thank you for sharing your culture with us.
End of Term Events & Performances
It is hard to believe that Term 1 is almost over. With some significant changes to staffing and leadership this year, our goal has been to maintain a stable and highly productive learning community this term and I believe we have managed to achieve this on many levels, which is a credit to our dedicated students, parents and staff that make up our cohesive school community. All the students have worked well throughout the term and we are currently preparing for a number of events to acknowledge and celebrate their dedication and achievements. We are very fortunate to have a highly skilled and dedicated school community that provides so many wonderful opportunities for our kids! Please keep an eye on the calendar so you don’t miss any of our exciting events that are coming up next week….Blue Mufti Day to raise money for Water Aid (Tuesday), Guitar Assembly (Wednesday 12pm) and the Easter Hat Parade (Thursday 1:30pm). We look forward to seeing you there!
NAPLAN Dates (Repeat Item)
Next term the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be completed by students in Years 3 & 5 at Banksmeadow PS. The dates for these tests are as follows;
Happy Holidays
As this is the last newsletter for the Term 1, I’d like to wish you all a very safe and enjoyable holiday. We’ve had very productive term and I know this Easter break is well deserved by all. Just a reminder that students are due to return to school on Tuesday 21st April to commence Term 2. See you next term!

Hot Cross Buns Concert
We enjoyed our first Hot Cross Buns concert this week when the school band performed for the community. Some of the children have only been learning their instrument for a few weeks and did a great job for their first public performance. Everyone also enjoyed the yummy hot cross buns and drinks at the end. Well done everyone.
The senior guitar group will be performing towards the end of the school assembly next Wednesday at 12.30. Parents are welcome to come and watch their first performance of the year.
Easter Hat Parade - Now at 2pm Thursday April 2nd
At the end of the afternoon, the P and C will draw the easter raffles. Please start sending in your Easter egg donations to the school office so that we can make up the prizes in the next few weeks.
